Description Ian Manning 2004-04-19 01:17:05 UTC
I have a collection of 3,500 albums (49,000 tracks). They're organized across 3
hard drives, so my Music Folder is a single folder with shortcuts to the roots
of each of these three drives. I've scanned the Music Library and it seemed to
complete OK (it shows roughly the correct no. of tracks/albums)

When I do a search for an album by name (using the IE web interface), then
click on the album title, it usually displays only one track - even though the
album contains 10 or more tracks, and the ID3 tags are correct. This happens
with most, but not all albums.

The server is Windows 2000 Server SP4, Pentium III, 512Mb RAM, 28Gb free disc
space on the "Music Folder" drive, and several Gb free on each of the drives
containing the MP3 files. FIles are arranged in folders, by artist/album.

I'm running Slim Server 5.1.3, downloaded April 18th 2004.

Hi Ian... we haven't seen this problem before. Do these songs appear when you navigate by Artist/
Album/Genre? What about if you navigate into Browse Music Folder?
Comment 2 Ian Manning 2004-04-19 10:17:36 UTC
No they don't appear if I navigate by Artist/Album. They also can't be found
using "Search for song title"

Do these files have complete ID3 tags? Most importantly, they require proper
Album Name, Artist, Track Number. If your track numbers are not unique, the
songs will get lost. Indexing references all songs by a combination of artist,
album, genre, tracknumber.
Comment 4 Ian Manning 2004-04-19 10:36:29 UTC
Yes they have valid ID3v1 tags for Album Name, Artist and Track Number (but no
ID3v2 tags). Track numbers are also unique.

Do these tracks appear if you browse by Music Folder?
Comment 6 Ian Manning 2004-04-19 12:00:10 UTC
Yes they do, and they all show a track number of "3". I have triple checked the
ID3 track numbers, and they are all correct!

Can you send me one of the files that shows an incorrect track number? dean@slimdevices.com
thanks!

I've uploaded one to the following URL:

Hi Ian. The file you sent me indeed has track 3 in its id3 v1.1 tag. (This is what iTunes interpreted, as
well as what I saw when I looked at the raw file data.) How are you identifing the track number?
Comment 10 Ian Manning 2004-04-19 12:45:18 UTC
I'm using Collectorz.com MP3 Collector - if I "Edit Tag" for this track it
shows a Track Index of 2. I've just noticed that the ID3v1 tag info in Winamp
shows a track index of 3, however??!

I've just checked alot of other tracks at random, and it seems that alot of my
collection looks like this. Since they've been ripped at different times using
different methods I don't really understand how this has happened - nor where
MP3 Collector gets its Track Index from - this appears to be correct.

If this needs to be fixed in order for Slim Server to differentiate the tracks,
would you happen to know of a way of batch-processing some 45,000 tracks to
derive a track index from the filename??

I've heard lots of folks rave about Tag&Rename...
