Bugzilla – Bug 2585
Sox causing 95+% cpu usage
Last modified: 2008-09-15 14:38:10 UTC
In bug report 1665, I reported "Each time when sox.exe is loaded and I try to change play lists, browse music, go to internet radio, etc, sox utilizes 90+ % of the cpu for a period of 45 - 90 second. During this time I cannot accomplish any thing else and the squeezebox will usually lose contact with the server." This was combined with 1401 as a duplicate, It was reported corrected in slimserver 6.2. As of today in 6.2.1, When I stop the player, clear the playlist or skip from the slimserver url there is a 45 sec 95% usage of cpu by sox.exe and the squeezebox1 loses connection with the server. Obviously this has not been corrected on windows xp. Please help! Ben McCall
Dan: didn't we update the version of sox to address this issue?
I don't think we got it compiled for Win32
Fixed in change 5707. Will be in the 2006-01-20 nightly. Sorry for the dealy - had some compiling issues on Windows.
I downloaded the nightly this AM and booted it. The CPU usuage is shorter (25 - 30 sec) but is still long enough that the squeezebox loses contact with the server. The problem is better but far from solved. Thanks! Ben
Ben - do you listen to any Ogg radio? Or is it strictly off disk?
I listen mostly to files from my computer. I listen to ogg radio but select radio stations with classical and jazz music because of their lack of talking and not because the music is in ogg. Thanks! Ben
I haven't seen any activity on this in the last two months. Are you making any progress? Thanks! Ben
Unfortunately the binary that I'm able to build on Windows doesn't work correctly. I'll try to hit this again in the coming weeks.
Ben - I've finally got this fixed & tested. Change 6848 It will be in the 2006-04-07 nightly for both 6.2.2 and 6.5 Alternatively, you can download just the sox.exe file from: http://svn.slimdevices.com/*checkout*/trunk/server/Bin/MSWin32-x86-multi-thread/sox.exe?rev=6848
I downloaded sox.exe last night and it worked perfectly. Thanks!! Ben
