Bugzilla – Bug 2558
Extending zap playlist tagging
Last modified: 2011-11-06 23:22:52 UTC
I use Zap when I stumble across a song that doesn't play correctly - eg. if a song skips due to a bad rip from a CD, or if the tags aren't correct. As I mainly listen to music using the SB from the bedroom at night, by the time I get up in the morning, I've forgotten what music I was going to sort out! I could never decide if I liked the functionality that it removes the track from the music library. Sometimes I wanted to use it to remind me to look into something, but the track would still play okay, and thus I wouldn't want to zap it until it had finished playing. How about the following, as an enhancement request, to enhance the functionality of the add button, so it's not just for zapping songs. Press-and-hold add button on a track selected in the now playing list. SB then asks what you want to do - top line of the display would read something like "Add to...", the second line would allow you to select a destination. The default destination would be "Zapped tracks" which would work as per current functionality. Other options could include other configurable markers, such as "Bad Tags", "Bad music", which would be implemented as playlists like the Zapped music playlist, but would not remove the track from the DB. In fact, it could also be used to add the track to an existing playlist or a new Playlist.
Untargetting so we can reassess post 6.5
I have implemented this as a plugin. A 6.5 version is ready and will be released (been waiting for a fix for bug 3798 though). I will be extending the plugin further, making it a more versatile playlist editor for the Player UI. Not sure if this bug should perhaps therefore be closed, or left open should you decide my plugin is suitable for merging into slimserver.
I use Random Mix primarily, and one of the best things about it is how often it finds great tracks you've forgotten or have never played. I'd like an easy way of marking those tracks for incorporating into a non-random playlist. I haven't tried using the remote, but the web interface needs better zapping capability. I use Fishbone, which only provides a means of zapping the current song, which has the unfortunate side effect of stopping play on that song. Ideally, there should be a sixth icon for each track, in addition to Play, Next, Up, Down and Delete. Also, why not have a server setting that allows specifying a different playlist to which zapped songs are sent?
You may find my plugin suitable for your needs: http://www.hergest.demon.co.uk/Music/slim/PlaylistManPlugin.htm This allows you to add the currently track to an arbitrary playlist.
Philip, your plugin would definitely be useful when using the player directly; as for the web UI, I've been keeping a text file open that I add to when something comes up via Random play that I want to use later. Right now I'm only keeping the artist and track title; ideally I should be saving the file names, but this works for now, and allows me to enter comments for any song (for example, friends who might be interested in a particular track).
Unassigned bugs cannot have a priority.
