Description Richard Mercer 2005-11-09 12:41:38 UTC
I have ripped (to .flac) all my 'popular' cd collection, and I am able to see and play all the albums and tracks that have been added to the Music Folder (using SlimServer v6.2b2). SlimServer Version: 6.2b2 - 4694 - Windows XP - EN - cp1252

I've just started ripping my classical collection, and I've hit a major problem. When I rip, for example, 'Beethoven Symphony No.7 in A major; Overtures 'Coriolan' & 'Egmont', Philharmonia Orchestra, cond Vladimir Ashkenazy', and then use this as the name of the Win XP folder containing the ripped tracks, this title is added to and listed correctly in the SlimServer Music Folder. But if I browse the Music Folder to view the tracks for this title, then none are listed, just the title, listed correctly as above.

I have since discovered that if I restrict the folder name to 64 characters or less, then I can see and play all the tracks in the music folder, no matter how long the individual track names happen to be.

Using Slimserver, is there a limit to the number of characters one may use for the titles of songs or works to be added to the Slim Devices Music Folder? Is it limited to 64 chars?

As per radish's suggestion I ripped Beethoven 9th again to a (temp) folder, then using Win Explorer renamed this folder as Beethoven Symphony No.9 'Choral' - 32 chars long.
When ripping classical cds I enter the composer and the title of the work under 'Artist' - in this case Beethoven Symphony No.9 'Choral', and the orchestra, soloist, conductor, etc. under 'Album' - Philharmonia Orch cond Vladimir Ashkenazy, so that I can select the work I want, followed by the choice of performer.
Having done this, browsing Album or Artist both fail to list the tracks, but browsing Music Folder lists the tracks OK.

There is no deliberate limit. 6.2B2 is fairly old now. Could you please try the latest 6.2.1(stable) nightly build

I have updated SlimServer to 6.2.1, and am pleased to report that the problem has been resolved. Browse Artist, Album and Music Folder work properly.

Thank you.

There are 536 bugs in the database with targets of '---' that were fixed prior to new year 2006. I am setting them to targets of 6.2.1 to keep them from showing up in my queries.
