Description Ron Palmer 2005-11-06 21:31:46 UTC
Wireless router is a D-Link DGL-4300, firmware 1.4

2xWireless SB2s, Windows XP PC running Slimserver 6.2 production.

SB2s are both bridging wireless to wired connection. One SB2 is connected to the Slimserver PC on the wired port (and bridging that PC to the wireless router), One SB2 is connecting to the Slimserver PC through wireless.

Running WPA2/AES:

Both SB2s will connect to the router on boot-up and work correctly for 1 hour. At the end of that hour, the wireless SB2 will lose connection to slimserver (clock screensaver goes dark). Rebooting the router will restore the connections to the SB2s (without any user intervention on the SB2s) for another hour. A laptop (running WPA/AES, not WPA2/AES) put on the network at the same time as the SB2s retained its network connection after the SB2s lost their connection.

The only configuration value I can see that's close to one hour on the router is "Group Key Update Interval (3600 seconds)".

Running WPA/TKIP:

Both SB2s have been connected without any failures for 4 days.

I did not try WPA/AES only (or WPA2/TKIP only) since those aren't frequently used. I can if it would help, however.

seems there is a working solution for now.

no doubt SD will be testing this router, or getting one soon :)

This fix requires us to update the kernel version in the firmware. Not going to make it for 6.2.1.

Please test with the firmware 33 that's included with the latest nightly releases and reopen the bug if you are still having issues. Thanks.

The original bug seems to be fixed (I've been running WPA2/AES for several days and haven't lost connectivity). However, there's a different problem, and I don't know if you want a new bug filed or continue this one. I'll put the report here for now.

Running the DGL-4300 router in backwards-compatible mode (allow WPA/WPA2, AES or TKIP) the Squeezeboxes don't connect when using WPA2. They will connect using WPA. Running the DGL-4300 in a more strict backwards-compatible mode (allow WPA/WPA2, AES only) the Squeezeboxes will connect using WPA2, but not WPA.

This isn't really an issue for me, since the rest of my equipment that's WPA-only allows me to use AES instead of TKIP, but other mixed-level networks might have problems.

I have a fix that should appear in firmware 37. Will update this bug when it's available for download.

Please try the latest nightly build with Firmware 37 and reopen if you have
issues. Also, please note details of your configuration if you have not
already.
