Description Andrew 2005-10-29 19:52:19 UTC
This is a follow up, and is the same problem as my bug report #2371.
I believe it relates to all versions.
You might not view it as a bug, but I can't imagine any useful purpose for
this annoying function.

The entire library is loaded into the playlist when the play button is pressed
while you are viewing the following:

1/ Browse Artists
2/ Browse Songs
3/ Browse Genres
4/ Browse Albums

These are the most important menu buttons I wish to use. I probably also
relates to others.
Bug #2371 fixed this problem in relation to 'Years' and it functions as it
should. [if you press play while viewing 'Years' nothing happens]
With music librarys as big as they are thes days it causes significant delays
in loading, and to an unskilled user, could appear as a system lockup.
Why would anyone want to load ther entire library anyway?

I was very impressed with the speed at which my previous report was addressed.
I hope this one is equaly as simple.

P.S. How do you save functions into favorites?

Regards Andrew

not as simple, as this is a designed feature to address those who requested
ability to load the entire library. browse_years is an ommission that, by
design, should be fixed to also load all. removing this feature would be a
regression, and not something quickly changed.

However, this is open source, so if you have a specific application that
requires this feature be avoided, you can run you service using the perl scripts
instead of the exe. Download the .zip or .tar.gz builds and install ActivePerl
from Activestate.com.

perhaps at this point, with Random play being available, the "play everything" features are not needed? Or, what if we changed this to play.hold so that it isn't as easily done acidentally?

I'm willing to patch either option if need be.

Dean - your thoughts?

Will be post 6.5 at any rate.

Yeah, I've seen too many people accidentally play their whole library. Here's what I propose:

Pressing PLAY in this context should be the same as hitting the RIGHT arrow button, i.e. navigate in. (This should be the default behavior on the PLAY button in any context where there isn't something obvious to play.)

Within each of those items there should be an "All Artists" "All Albums" "All Genres" "All Years" that you can select and press PLAY on to play everything. This way it's explicit. Navigating into those should be like navigating into the top level "Albums", "Songs", "Artists" or "Albums" levels respectively.

Not a 6.5 feature, though.

p.s. Whoops, we don't have a "Songs" item, but if we did, you'd be browsing into a list of all the songs in your library. :)

Dean doesn't work here any more :)

Unassigned bugs cannot have a priority.
