Description jeff 2005-10-29 05:21:23 UTC
When browsing by artist to Various Artists using the remote, the category is
shown as "empty".

Each album and its files are stored in separate subfolders under the Various
Artists folder as follows:

C:\My Music\Various Artists\AlbumTitle\Songs
The files are tagged as follows:
Artist=Various Artists
Album=Album Name, i.e., AM Gold 1964

I am NOT using any other tag fields to refer to the artist such as "Album
Artist", etc.

This occurs with all "Compilation" choices under Server Settings.

The web interface displays all of the Various Artists albums correctly under
Various Artists. The albums may be found by browsing Album Title with the
remote.

This probably should have gone to dan...
please supply the version of the server. 6.2.0 or 6.2.1 latest build?
Comment 2 Dan Sully 2005-10-30 15:19:46 UTC
Can you please attach a zipped copy of your slimserversql.db file to this bug?

Thanks.

Downloaded SS 6.2.1 (Oct. 31 nightly). Removed a shortcut to Musicmatch in my
music folder which I did not know was there.

Rescanned (wiped cache) my music folder and the SS web UI shows 45 albums with
837 songs by 1 artist under Various Artists (which is correct).

The player UI still shows "Empty" when browsing albums under Various Artists.

Ok - could you upload that .db file instead then?

Thanks.

Jeff - I've checked in a fix as subversion change 5017.

It will be in the 11-04-2005 nightly. You'll need to rescan.
Comment 8 jeff 2005-11-05 05:01:23 UTC
No problems after installing the 11-04-2005 nightly. Thanks for the fix Dan.
Comment 9 jeff 2005-11-05 06:25:10 UTC
Maybe I spoke too soon. When browsing by artist I note that the
category "Various Artists" now appears right under All Albums in the web UI
and the Player UI, i.e., the category no longer appears under the letter "V"
in either interface. It also appears at the top (under All Albums) of each
page when Browsing Artists by letter on each page of the web UI. Is this by
design? If so, I guess I can accommodate this.
Comment 10 Dan Sully 2005-11-05 10:17:01 UTC
Yes - by design. Our UI guru decided it was best to have the meta-type links at the top of the list.

For some people, "Various Artists" is completely virtual and not in any of their tags.
Comment 11 jeff 2005-11-06 05:02:55 UTC
Ok Dan that makes sense to me. Thanks again for the fix.
Comment 12 jeff 2005-11-22 04:37:26 UTC
This bug has returned after installation of SS 6.21 final. Browsing the Player UI under Various Artists shows the category as "Empty".
Comment 13 jeff 2006-02-02 04:53:57 UTC
After changing "Various Artists" to something else under Server settings / Behavior / Compilations all albums now appear in both the player and web interface. As far as I am concerned this is no longer an issue.
Comment 14 Dan Sully 2006-02-02 09:01:06 UTC
Ok - thanks for the update, Jeff.

Please reopen if you need to.
