Bugzilla – Bug 2404
Particular unicode character in title crashes server
Last modified: 2008-09-15 14:37:04 UTC
I have a song (Turkish Jazz) entitled Sarı Kız. Look carefully at that name, the letters that look like an i aren't - they are something else. If you don't have your browser set to UTF-8 they'll show as odd. The song was ripped with iTunes on a Mac. The name shows up correctly on the slim's web display. If I try to play this track on my old slimp3 it starts playing correctly but the display shows the odd character as a y, then the display starts repeating 'r' and scrolls off the screen, then the server crashes. If I play this on my squeezebox 1 it plays it without causing a crash, but the display shows a ? rather than the correct character. I can live with the '?' although I'd like to know how to fix it. The crash seems like a bug to me, although I haven't had chance to search the bug-base. Any ideas how to fix this? I'm running slimserver 6.2 on Debian Sarge Celeron system. I have slimp3 (2), squeezebox 1 and squeezebox 2 on the network.

Comment on attachment 958 [details] This is a file that cuases this crash I should also add that I'm fairly sure the character is the problem as I have another file in the same album with the same character in the title that crashes the same way. I have played the whole album in the past without problem - I think using a Slimp3 - but I'm not sure if that was on a 5.x or 6.0 version server.
Martin - I've checked in a basic fix as change 5021 for the 6.2.1 branch. A more comprehensive fix will go in the 6.5 unstable branch. Big fan of your books btw.
