Description WildCoder 2005-10-27 21:12:41 UTC
I would like to autorize a couple of friends and relatives to use softsqueeze to
stream from my slimserver. But also I would like to let them use the web
interface so they can browse my collection and create their own playlist in a
much more user friendly way.
It would be nice if there was a way to limit the web interface so they can only
browse the music collection and manage their player settings but have NO access
whatsoever to the server settings? Of course I would need to maintain full access.

There is a plugin to password protect the setup pages

WildCoder,
I take it from your posts on the forum that this is no longer an issue?

Going to run with use the NoSetup plugin - and it sounds like Michael is updating it to have more
features.

I'll see what new features Michael can put in NoSetup. That might work. Even
though I *think* it'll be an IP based filter. Whereas I would preffer the server
setting page to be password protected so I can still access it from friends'
computers which have otherwise a limited access.

Another solution may be to have 2 password for the web interface: an admin
password and a regular user password. If you log in with the admin one, the
server settings page is accessible, if you log in with the user one it's not.
But I administrate a few linux servers so I'm used to entering root password
only when needed, same goes for windows where I always run in a limited account
and switch to admin only when needed. I can see the majority of your users not
wanting to have to enter a password.

Anyway let's see what Michael can cook up first.
