Bugzilla – Bug 2384
Audible .aa format support
Last modified: 2010-05-11 21:10:24 UTC
It would be great to have Audible.com's .aa format supported by Slimserver / Squeezebox. Audible provides an email address, audibleready@audible.com , for questions about adding .aa format support
Will definitely look into this.
Any update on this? I too would find it very useful! Especially if it included the bookmarking concept!
I'd like to be able to play Audible .aa file on my squeezebox as well.
Please add this feature and maybe my Squeezebox will get more use than my TiVo.
I'd love to see this too: Kinoma Play, which works on Palm and Windows Mobile devices (at present), has a great example of how a streaming service can integrate with Audible. Not only do they support downloading content and playing it back on-device, with full bookmark/resume support, they also allow you to list your 'library' of books and periodicals, and allow you to *stream* the book from Audible's servers, so you don't have to download the file at all. It's an excellent way to handle the content, and would fit quite well into the SqueezeNetwork/Music Service infrastructure you've already created.

Targeting based on engineering discussion, we are investigating this further

Matt Weldon isn't available to us any more. Please vote for this bug to make sure it appears in our priority list!
I'd love to see the ability to stream .aa format too.
All new Squeezebox products are likely to be based on the SqueezePlay platform. We do not plan to implement any further enhancements to the ip3k firmware or which are targeted specifically at ip3k-based products.
So I guess this is now a duplicate of Bug 15421? It's really weak to take an existing bug with 8 votes requesting a clear functionality and close it without referencing the replacement bug. It's not clear that the original bug really had anything to do with SB 2/3 specifically. It was probably targetted against those products because it was filed so long ago with no activity. Why not just move the bug to the squeezeplay category rather than artificially close it?

Thanks for the reference to the duplicate bug. I have changed my vote to 15421. Generally, I have lots of patience with the Logitechs, but Mr. Young's response was something that did set my teeth on edge. It sounds like something that could have been written by Microsoft. Lots of words with little "actionable" information. It did not actually reply to the essence of what the customers were requesting--the ability to play Audible files on their Squeezboxes.

When Logitech acquired Slim Devices, I thought this bug might finally get some resources allocated to it. But I guess big company is a bit slow to respond to customer requested features?
