Description Richard Titmuss 2005-10-23 13:15:52 UTC
Greedy grendel reports:

I have been running Softsqueeze 2 on a Windows XP SP2 PC now for a
while, and whilst it seems to be functioning very well in most areas, I
am having a quirky and incredibly annoying problem that goes something
like this...

Whenever I add an album to the end of a playlist that has just ended,
exactly two thirds of the way through the first track of the newly
added playlist the audio drops out, though the track progress bar still
proceeds, so it doesn't appear to be a lockup.

I have been plagued by this problem with every version of Softsqueeze
2, ever since I first started using it seven months or so ago.

I own an SB2, and this problem has never manifested itself. Out of
interest, the problem can be replicated on all four PCs on my LAN.

The tech stuff:

SlimServer Version: 6.1.2 - 4157 - Windows XP - EN - cp1252

Softsqueeze Version: 2.0b9
Java Version 1.5.0
Audio Mixer: SB Audigy 2 (FDCO)
Audio Buffer Size: 128000
MP3 Decoder: Java MP3 Plugin

Any help would be appreciated.

Cheers,
Marc

I've seen the same thing using the MP3 plugin. Restarting the playback seems to bring back the audio,
and most times it stays on. i've since gone back to the old audio driver (jlayer?) and it hasn't failed on
me. My instinct is to be blaming the mp3 plugin.

Sorry I cannot recreate this. Could someone please post step by step
instructions. Thanks.

For me, there were no steps. I jsut start up slimserver, start softsqueeze from
the status_noclients page link to the webstart. It would then work most times,
other times it would just lose audio a minute or so into the song. I had to
stop and restart the track. 99% of the time, it would be fine after that. I
didn't keep track, but I'd say it was fine the majority of the time. This is on
win2k, P4 1.4G, firefox browser SS 2.0b10 (at the time) jdk 1.5.0

I simply figured that the MP3 plugin just wasn't happy with my soundcard.

Is this still an issue?

This may not have been an issue for a while but there appears to be a repeatable audio glitch in Softsqueeze3.1.

If I add just Beyonce's Crazy in Love to a playlist and run it on repeat.

The first play works fine.

The sencond play has 2 dropouts. 1 at ~3 seconds, the other at ~5 seconds.

I can mail Richard the file if it will help sort out the issue.

But I don't think this is song related, but buffer related (since the glitch always happens twice just at the start of the song) and it's repeatable using different songs.

Unassigned bugs cannot have a priority.
