Bugzilla – Bug 2317
Request to support 'Album Artist' Tag from J.River Media Center 11
Last modified: 2008-09-15 14:39:24 UTC
I was wondering if you would consider supporting the "Album Artist" field from J.River Media Center 11? It is written to a custom comment field. I'll upload a sample file which has 'Tom Petty & the Heartbreakers' as 'Artist' and 'Tom Petty' as 'Album Artist.'
Created attachment 923 [details] MP3 file containing 'Album Artist' field as written by J.River Media Center 11 Here's a sample file from MC11 which has 'Tom Petty & the Heartbreakers' as 'Artist' and 'Tom Petty' as 'Album Artist.'
Sue - I'm going to have to push this off for now - one part of the fix is easy, but your test file exposes another bug that I need more time to make sure it doesn't break anything else.
Ok, Thanks for letting me know! Somewhat related: I was experimenting today with copying MC's Album Artist info into the TPE2/Band tag to see if it would behave like I want, but it didn't do what had hoped either. If you have time, could you possibly weigh in on this thread: http://forums.slimdevices.com/showthread.php?t=17570
Fixed in change 4962.
Thanks. This does show the Album Artist in the Browse Albums list now. However, I was hoping that Album Artist would over-ride (track) Artist in the Browse Artists list when it exists. I do not want to list compilations under "various artists" except in those cases where I have defined a specific Album Artist. Is this possible? Currently I have "List compilations under each artist" and "List albums by band" for the compilation settings. In my mind, this should give me what I want, but it doesn't. Instead I am getting all the song artists in the list, in addition to the Album Artist. Maybe there needs to be another option for this? I know this seems unrelated to the original enhancement request, but it was the reason behind it.
Ok - this becomes a non-trivial change which needs some more thought and is out of the 6.2.1 bug fix timeframe.
