Description Max Spicer 2005-10-18 00:25:03 UTC
There should be a separate preferences file that is never written to by
slimserver and that contains settings that are imported into the preferences
with higher priority than those in slimserver.conf. This would allow user's to
specify settings that they don't want to change, without having to search
through the potentially confusing environment that is slimserver.conf. In
addition, they would be able to safely make these changes whilst slimserver is
running (although they wouldn't necessarily take effect until the next restart).
We should consider moving the prefs that have no other interface and would only
want to be changed by the user (database location, for example) into this file.
It would still be a file for advanced users, but a "safer" environment than
slimserver.conf. You could consider recommending that user's never change
slimserver.conf directly after this. This is very similar to Mozilla's prefs.js
and user.js approach.

Note that I personally don't need this feature, but I can see that it would be
of benefit to others. See http://forums.slimdevices.com/showthread.php?p=58136,
for example.

Note: this feature would potentially make it impossible (or at least much more
difficult) to handle changes such as forcing yoru Random Mix into the menu. If
user.conf is somethign users want NEVER changed, then that means NEVER changed
except by them.

good idea. we'll look at this post 6.2.

maybe this could tie in with bug726, as new player defaults.

Dean doesn't work here any more :)

Unassigned bugs cannot have a priority.
