Description Sue Chastain 2005-10-04 13:36:56 UTC
SlimServer does not interpret Replay Gain tags as generated by J River Media
Center 11. I am attaching 3 files:
Both - 01 Pantala Naga Pampa.mp3 (Contains tags from MP3Gain and Jriver)
JRiver MC - 01 Pantala Naga Pampa.mp3 (MP3Gain tags were removed, so it should
just have the JRiver tags.)
MP3Gain - 01 Pantala Naga Pampa.mp3 (JRiver tags were removed so it should
just have the MP3Gain info)

Sue - do you have contact info for J.River? They are doing something that makes it very hard for us to deal
with their added RG tags.

Thanks.

Nothing more than what's on their Web site:
http://www.jrmediacenter.com/company.html

And there's a forum here: http://yabb.jriver.com/interact/

I haven't even bought it yet. Still in a 30-day trial.

Thanks Sue - I've left them a comment.

I've also commited a fix in subversion change 4568 - so that we can read their tagging format.

It will be in the 2005-10-07 nightly.

Thanks!

Hi, sorry to reopen this, but I just realized Media Center was only writing
Replay Gain and not Album Gain into the tags on my files. So the file I
submitted before only had Replay Gain. If you could also interpret MC's "Album
Gain" tags that would be great! I'm attaching a small file that should have
both.

Fixed in change 5019
Comment 10 Jason Melvin 2005-12-10 12:41:50 UTC
Although this was resolved for mp3 tags, MC11 seem to tag FLAC files differently than mp3 files.

I will try to attach a FLAC file tagged with MC11, where the tag is not written in a comment field, but rather just as metadata, "Replay Gain = -xxx"

If there is a way to get this working for flac files, I would really appreciate it.

FLAC file with MC11 replaygain tag

I'm reopening this because it seems to be broken in SlimServer 6.5. When I play songs now, the volume varies greatly, and when I navigate to the song info in the Web UI, the replay gain is not listed for about half of my songs. Some of my files had been run through MP3 Gain before I started using J River, so I suspect SS is only doing volume adjustment those older files and no longer reading JRMC's Replay Gain tags.

Sue - when you go to the 'song info' page, is the RG information shown?

Can you upload a sample file? The ones currently attached to the bug all work for me.

Thanks

Hi Sue. Can you attach a file to this bug that exhibits the problem?

Comment 15 Sue Chastain 2006-09-25 09:22:39 UTC
Sorry, guys. I think this has to do with the way my library is all screwed up. I should have figured out the library problem before I reopened this bug. The songs that aren't showing Volume Adjustment in the song info page are that way because the Slimserver database is "guessing" tags (wrongly) for those songs instead of using the actual tags. The tags are there, they have not changed since 6.3.1, but for some reason Slimserver 6.5 is using the directory structure instead of the tag info and it's all mixed up with album names listed as songs, artists as albums, and so on.

A thread detailing my problems with the library since installing 6.5 is here: http://forums.slimdevices.com/showthread.php?t=27875

I would appreciate any advice on getting it sorted out.
