Description clumsyoik 2005-10-02 15:37:56 UTC
I would like have more options for browsing. For example, I prefer a list sorted
by "Artist - Album", e.g.

Death In Vegas - The Contino Sessions
Death In Vegas - Dead Elvis
Elton John - Live In Australia
Elton John - Goodbye Yellow Brick Road

I am sure other people have their own preferences (putting genre or year in
there), so maybe there could be a way to have custom formats for browsing? This
would also need to include the format of each level in the hierarchy, e.g.

%artist% - %album%/%tracknumber% - %trackname%
or
%genre%/%artist% - %trackname%

SlimServer already has this functionality. See Formatting in Settings.

Also see "Include Artist in Album listings" in Settings.

I can't see anything in Settings->Formatting that allows this. I don't want to
just change how the song title is displayed ("Title Format"), but how the higher
levels of the browse hierarchy are displayed.

In particular, "Include Artist in Album listings" doesn't allow me to sort by
artist. The example I gave matches what people tend to do in the physical world
- put their CD's on a shelf in "artist" order, and allow browsing by "artist -
album" (NOT "album - artist").

But the main point, is that it would be even better to be flexible, and to allow
the user to define their own browsing/sorting criteria.

Note I am actually able to get what I want by renaming the directories/files and
browsing the filesystem. Feel free to close this as WONTFIX or whatever, but I
just wanted to make my point a bit clearer.

Ok - this sounds much more like Bug 103 now.
