Description zengelman 2005-09-16 09:14:17 UTC
Is it possible to add 7 band or something equalizer to slimserver which can be
set individually for each player settings?
Comment 1 zengelman 2005-09-23 06:39:24 UTC
any thoughts on this yet and if it can get into 6.2?
Comment 2 Blackketter Dean 2005-09-23 08:21:06 UTC
This isn't going to happen for 6.2, alas.

This would be a great feature but should be done properly. 1/3 octave
equalization (31 bands). This will allow for proper equalization of subs that
don't have a flat response.

Any plans for this in 6.5? Seems like a "UI" improvement to me...
Comment 5 Todd Pettit 2007-02-06 10:35:06 UTC
If this feature is added I will be purchasing 12 more units.

Not having an equalizer for use with a device as high end as the Transporter is very significant if one is using small, high end speakers. iTunes provides the abilitly to dial in some compensation for this in its equalizer. So should SlimDevices for it to be service oriented to higher end audio customers.

Dean, is this ever likely to happen? Thanks.

It's not going to happen in the firmware, there's just not enough CPU power left in the player.

To make it happen in SlimServer, you'd need to decode on the server then run it through the equalization, then reencode (or send uncompressed audio). This can be a very cpu intensive function.

The Inguz DSP plugin http://www.inguzaudio.com/ does this, as does BruteFIR http://wiki.slimdevices.com/index.cgi?BrutefirFilter

That said, it's not a planned feature for the core SlimServer engine. Check out the two plugins mentioned and see if they are what you need. If not, there's an excellent opportunity for another plugin to be written.
