Bugzilla – Bug 2017
ID3v2 tags in Oggs don't work
Last modified: 2008-09-15 14:39:24 UTC
I've 2000-odd ogg files tagged with id3v2 in addition to the Ogg comment fields. They play fine everywhere (including on slimserver) but slimserver reads neither the id3v2 nor ogg tags, PurePerl.pm looks for the first 4 bytes to be 'OggS', so doesn't try and open the files when there are ID3 tags prepended to the oggs (which everything else seems to deal with). I'll attach an id3v2 tagged ogg to this bug report.
Created attachment 771 [details] Ogg file with ogg comments & id3v2 tags.
Illtud: A couple of questions for you: What program tagged this file like this? What programs have you tried that know this kind of tagging? It's the first we've seen of it, so I want to make sure we get it right.
grip did this. I've just installed it fresh on a new FC4 box I have, and it's not the default setting. It's under the 'ID3' tab in 'config' - 'add ID3v2 tags' option. I couldn't tell you whether it's valid to have an ID3 header prepended to an ogg file, but they still played fine in all other ogg-playing applications & on an iRiver ihp-120 (hdd mp3 player).
Technically, it's not an ogg file if it doesn't start with the ogg header, I believe. That said, we can look at it, but after 6.2. Is it possible for you to remove the id3 tags?
Yes, I've already removed the ID3 tags and that's solved my slimserver problem (well, not quite - all tracks are now appearing both in Albums & 'No Album', so I now have twice as many tracks as I have .ogg files...). Grip seems to think that prepending the ID3 tags to Ogg is legit, as does every other ogg-handling app I have, *including slimserver* - it plays them fine! I'm fairly sure that this means that you're allowed to do so. Anyway, I seem to have triggered another problem by stripping my ID3s, I'll ask about it on the forums before logging it as a bug!
Fixed in subversion change 4066. Will be in the 2005-08-26 nightly.
...now I've reported a fair few bugs to a number of applications in my time, but you've just won the "from report to code" award by a mile! Have a virtual beer on me! If you're ever passing through Wales, you can have a real one!
