Bugzilla – Bug 1971
Visualizer periodically freezes when playing a remote stream transcoded to flac
Last modified: 2011-03-16 04:19:54 UTC
The visualizer appears to race and then freeze when playing remote streams transcoded to flac. When the transcoding is changed to wav, visualizer looks normal. There is no impact on audio. Using alien with mplayer on linux 2.6. I would expect this to give bursts of flac data. Latest firmware version 16. There has also been a post on the forums about the visualiser causing stalls in Alien playback (can't see this from the above, but is probably related) http://forums.slimdevices.com/showthread.php?t=15622

Does this still happen with modern Alien and SB firmware?
Latest firmware appears OK - closing. Thanks.
I apologize; I've been slow in adding this notification to some of the bugs. Please ignore it if you've already tried the new firmware. This bug fix is now available in the nightly Slimserver release. The release is available from: http://www.slimdevices.com/dev_nightly.html If you prefer to wait for the next official release, you will be notified when it occurs. You'll need to install the new version of Slimserver, and then force your Squeezebox to upgrade its firmware by holding down the 'Brightness' button on the remote control until the firmware upgrade process begins. If you are still experiencing this problem after upgrading your affected players to the new firmware, please reopen the bug.
I am using AlienBBC to play Radio4 transcoding to FLAC and I get the slow/freezing every second display of the spectrum analyser. I also get this if I force the SlimPicks Interrnet Radio for London (BBC Radio 4) to use FLAC instead of the built-in Windows Media player, so it's definitely a FLAC issue of some kind. I have slimerserver v6.5.1 and SB firmware 71 (1st Jan 2007) i.e. SlimServer Version: 6.5.1 - 11067 - Debian - EN - iso-8859-1 Perl Version: 5.8.7 i486-linux-gnu-thread-multi MySQL Version: 5.0.21-standard So, I think there is still a bug there.
Hi again, I should have also said that the problem occurs ONLY for LIVE radio (e.g Radio 4 -> FM) but not for any of the listen again shows. Perhaps it is something to do with the way LIVE streams are, e.g. they are RealAudio streams whereas perhaps the listen again ones are different? Then again, I thought all the AlienBBC streams were Real Audio. Anyway, there is something different about the LIVE streams, as all of the lives ones, Radio 1, 2, 3 and 4 show this problem with FLAC transcoding (from RTSP.) HTH
