Description Jim McAtee 2005-08-06 22:40:42 UTC
When 'Group Discs' is set to 'Treat multi-disc sets as a single album' give an
additional browse level that takes you down to the tracks on each individual
disc. Ideally, the web interface would show additional lines at the top of the
track list.

The reason for wanting this is that the it's difficult to play a single CD of a
multi-disc set when treating multi-disc albums as a single album. The
alternative, that of treating the discs as multiple albums, makes playing the
discs easy, but isn't terribly appealing when browsing, especially when
browsing artwork.

Intead of:

All songs [>] [+]
1. Back in the U.S.S.R. [>] [+]
2. Dear Prudence [>] [+]
...

You'd have

All songs [>] [+]
Disc 1 [>] [+]
Disc 2 [>] [+]
1. Back in the U.S.S.R. [>] [+]
2. Dear Prudence [>] [+]
...

Clicking 'Disc 1' or 'Disc 2' would take you down another level.
Clicking 'Play' or 'Add to Playlist' would play or enqueue only the tracks of
that disc.

I was going to file a new suggestions, but found this one.
This would be a great new feature!

Aditional rationale why this is useful:

I like to have my multidisc albums organised as one album. For normal browsing, this looks better/is more logical.
Most of the time, I will listen to a multi-disc album whole. For example - The Wall by Pink Floyd.

However, sometimes it would be preferable to be able to select a single disc to play. For example: Bonus CDs on Limited edition albums are not something I want to listen to every time I listen to an album. (example: Grinderman - Limited Edition where Disc 2 are bonus tracks and live versions of songs).

I suggest adding a subsection to the Album info on Almbum View, Disc: 1, 2, ..; where the numbers are links to just the songs on a single disc.

Thank you.

Ah, four years later, a like soul. Yes, this ability is very desirable if you group multi-disc sets as a single album. And I'd be willing to bet that most people set this as their preference, despite the opposite being the default server settings.

You're very right about bonus disks. I hate those things, as Squeezebox Server makes playing only the original album's tracks difficult.

Unassigned bugs cannot have a priority.
