Bugzilla – Bug 18088
LMS won't start
Last modified: 2014-04-23 07:48:57 UTC
After fresh install, it starts nicely. When computer rebooted, it won't start. When "start" button pressed, it won't start (no status change under button, button doesn't grey out). After reinstall, it starts automatically, once. It starts nicely though when kicked manually: /Library/PreferencePanes/Squeezebox.prefPane/Contents/Resources/start-server.sh
platform: Mac Mini PPC 1.42 GHz, 1 GB RAM
Set/re-set the startup mode. Would it still fail? ...and I thought we had dropped PPC support... :-)
Startup mode doesn't change that behaviour. Well, apart from that, seems it works normally on PPC. Didn't know it should not :)
Could you please check OSX' console for issues related to the pref-pane? It might actually be only the prefpane panel is no longer working on PPC. You might work around this by creating a startup item manually, calling the start-server script you already know.
4/21/14 8:27:28 PM System Preferences[19884] LSOpenFromURLSpec() returned -10827 for application /Library/PreferencePanes/Squeezebox.prefPane/Contents/Resources/start-server.sh path (null). 4/21/14 10:54:00 PM System Preferences[11945] LSOpenFromURLSpec() returned -10827 for application /Library/PreferencePanes/Squeezebox.prefPane/Contents/Resources/remove-launchitem.sh path (null). There are some more logs from squeezebox preference panel, but seem irrelevant. Also, stop button sometimes doesn't work. But only sometimes - most of the time it works. The rest of the preferences panel is behaving fine. I've made the workaround and start server manually, so this is not critical. Does lack of support mean it will behave worse and worse, until at some update it'll stop working completely?
> Does lack of support mean it will behave worse and worse, until at some > update it'll stop working completely? I thought it wouldn't work any longer. I'm surprised it still does :-). The server itself might just continue to work. But the prefpane to manage it is obviously broken on PPC. Maybe we only dropped support for 10.4, but not PPC. Enjoy it while it lasts. That said: you should always be able to start the server manually, as you already do. The prefpane doesn't have any vital features if you know that trick.
It's little pity, because Mac Mini PPC is cheap and nice base for LMS. But as soon as one can start it manually, I am satisfied.
