Bugzilla – Bug 17739
Service doesn't start on Windows 2000 SP4
Last modified: 2011-11-14 07:01:07 UTC
Created attachment 7550 [details] Screen shots of errors encountered during installation on a Win2K system I updated to v.7.7.0 and towards the end of installation I got an error dialog complaining that a file named sc could not be found. Then upon the service starting it pops up a dialog box complaining about not finding an entry point in kernel32.dll and not being able to find gdiplus.dll and mscvr100.dll. These dialog boxes appear several times before aborting starting the service. I have attached a zip file with screen shots of the dialog boxes that popped up. Bruce
I'm sorry to say, but it seems that we can no longer support Windows 2000: the installation fails on Microsoft's Visual C++ libraries which are not compatible with that system. I actually thought we had pulled it from the list of supported systems already - but missed the change on the download page. You might be able to run the server with limited transcoding functionality. AFAIK those libraries are only required if you want to eg. transcode wma streams to mp3 etc. Can you run SqueezeSvr.exe from the command line (or by double-clicking it)? You could then install the service by running SqueezeSvr.exe --install as administrator. The "--remove" parameter would remove it from the list of services again.

You should do something about mysqueezebox.com "win 2000" is still listed there .

Thanks for the quick reply. Sorry I am unable to try what you suggest from the command line. I almost immediately uninstalled v7.7.0 and reverted to v7.6.1 to get the squeezeboxes working again so my wife could listen to music.
