Bugzilla – Bug 17664
Podcasts stop every 5-10 minutes
Last modified: 2011-10-25 19:11:03 UTC
Since the most recent FW update (7.6.1-r9482) I have noticed that when I am listening to a long podcast, it will stop after 5-10 minutes. This behavior happens both on my Radio and on my Touch. The little icon on the screen shows a square, just as though I had pressed a stop button. When I go to start it again by pressing the pause or play button. It goes back to the beginning of the podcast and I have to fast forward to where it left of. Then it will play along merrily for another 5-10 minutes and stop again and the whole process repeats again and again until the end of the podcast. It is really irritating. Now if I am listening and press the pause button, the pause icon will appear (two vertical lines). It will stay paused for quite a long time and when I press the pause button again, it will take up playing where it left off. It does not go back to the beginning or need fast forwarding.
This is also happening on the Classic model running firmware version 133. Server version is 7.5.4, running under Linux (Fedora ver. 14) on a Vortexbox server (ver. 1.9). All devices are connected via ethernet. The problem occurs on some, but not all podcast feeds and has occured sporadically in the past. The buffer fullness display shows that the player simply stops receiving the stream and the player appears to terminate normally when the receive buffer is exhausted. There are no diagnostic messages in the server log.
I was running the roads for a while and did not have time to listen to my longer podcasts, but for the last few days, they have been playing straight through on my Touch without the periodic stopping. (I have not had a chance to try it on my Radio yet. Is this a fluke or did you actually change something to fix it.
