Description Kurt Poulsen 2011-09-25 14:08:46 UTC
On 7.7.0 R33512 it is impossible to add directories for scanning. In the WEBUI network places like \\server\music can't be added.
Comment 1 Michael Herger 2011-09-26 09:03:17 UTC
Working fine for me. Make sure that you have the permission to access that share. In particular if you are running LMS as a service in the background, it very likely does not have permission by default, as the system user isn't known by the remote server.
Comment 2 Kurt Poulsen 2011-09-26 11:36:47 UTC
7.6.2 doesn't have this problem so it can't be something to do with permissions.
And the ControlPanel has exactly the same problem.
And I don't think the WebUI and the Controlpanel inherits the permission from the service. They are two completely different things on Windows.
Comment 3 Michael Herger 2011-09-26 11:58:29 UTC
Well, it works for me... do you get an error message at least?
Comment 4 Kurt Poulsen 2011-09-26 12:06:49 UTC
No. No messages at all.
I tried to attach the net share as as network drive and the use that. That doesn't work either.
Comment 5 Kurt Poulsen 2011-09-26 12:15:14 UTC
I have tried to move some music, photos and videofiles to a local drive. And now it works.
For some reason it won't use anything from the network.
In the webUI I tried to choose from the explorer instead of just write the path but no network shares or drives is showing.
Comment 6 Kurt Poulsen 2011-09-26 12:17:03 UTC
And then it fails again.
As soon the scan is over the added directories is deleted from the setup and is not showing anymore.

Description: add squeezeboxserver to the list of obsoleted packages
Comment 8 Kurt Poulsen 2011-09-26 12:20:48 UTC
just a thought: Could the file where this is saved be write protected? Where is the file placed?

Ooops... sorry for the confusion.

I might have a teori:

When I add the drives with music, photos and video the drives is actually added and the scanner starts scanning and find the content. BUT the webUI is not refreshed and therefore the screen isn't showing the drives.
So when I start a new scan it reads what is on the screen which is nothing and saves that back to the server.prefs file which now contains no drives/directories for scanning.!

Just upgraded to RC3 - same story.

Could you please try a different browser? Make sure you wipe your browser's cache. Anything in server.log?
Comment 14 Kurt Poulsen 2011-09-28 08:56:51 UTC
I have tried both IE 8 and Firefox 7. I have cleared the cache on IE8 and now it works with local drives but I can't add network drives like \\server\music or a attached network drive (Z:\).
Comment 15 Kurt Poulsen 2011-09-28 11:32:52 UTC
RC4 got it to work without clearing any cache. But still not possible to add network drives.
Is this by design?
Comment 16 Michael Herger 2011-09-29 01:21:36 UTC

Definitely not. As I said before I can't reproduce the issue. And there are bug reports about UNC paths being much slower than mounted drives - these guys must have been able to enter the paths too.

I thought I had asked before, but can't find it here: are you running the server in the background as a service, or when you log in? How does your startup setting look in the control panel? Can you start/stop it from the task tray?
Comment 17 Kurt Poulsen 2011-09-29 07:12:16 UTC
I think I am: LMS starts when my pc starts.
Yes I can start/stióp it from the task tray

Comment 19 Michael Herger 2011-10-02 22:14:08 UTC
are you adding one or more paths? Could you please upload a screenshot of the settings page before you submit it?
Comment 20 Brett 2011-10-03 03:50:53 UTC
Single path, in that in the web UI I would remove the 3 default paths and add my single mapped drive as the first path.

The browse button cant find mapped drives, manually entering UNC paths fails, but manually entering mapped drive works. (z:\folder)

This worked fine in 7.6

QA - could you please try to find a reproducible case for this issue? I've been unable to reproduce so far.

Please test LMS
- on various Windows versions (XP - 7, 32/64bit)
- connecting to various servers (NAS, WHS)
- while running as an app(!)

Thanks!

Testing with Logitech Media Server Version: 7.7.1 - r33750 for Windows I was unable to replicate this issue.

Please re-test - if you are able to replicate this issue please include a Scanner log
