Bugzilla – Bug 17532
Scan aborts when reading certain files
Last modified: 2012-12-11 04:58:59 UTC
Created attachment 7445 [details] mp3 file that causes SBS scan to abort when attempting to read tags The SBS scan aborts when reading certain .mp3 files. When I remove all the tags from these files and re-tag them, the launch a new scan, the scan reads them with no problem and moves on until it encounters another problme file. Nearly all these files are from the same source and possibly the same poster. One is attached.
you should probably mention that it only crashes on ReadyNAS. It's scanning fine on OSX for me.
(In reply to comment #1) > you should probably mention that it only crashes on ReadyNAS. It's scanning > fine on OSX for me. Thanks. Yes, I forget to mention that it's on a ReadyNAS NV+, 1 Gb RAM, wired Ethernet. Details below. The Windows version of SBS completed the scan fine. ____________________________________________________ Version: 7.6.2 - r33283 @ Thu Sep 1 02:54:18 PDT 2011 Hostname: ReadyNAS_NV Server IP Address: 10.0.0.41 Server HTTP Port Number: 9000 Operating system: Netgear RAIDiator v. 4.1.7 - EN - utf8 Platform Architecture: sparc-linux Perl Version: 5.8.8 - sparc-linux Database Version: DBD::SQLite 1.34_01 (sqlite 3.7.7.1) Total Players Recognized: 0 ___________________________________________________
By removing and rewriting the tags from each mp3 file that the scan aborted on, I was able to scan my entire collection. After scanning all the music files, the scan also aborted when extracting images from certain files. I used the same process and now the scan completes. The only problem now is that SBS is often unavailable. This is sometimes due to the local IP address of the NAS changing itself. I don't know if this is the fault of SBS or related to the scan bug. WHen I began the process of adopting v. 7.6, my NAS's local IP was 10.0.0.4. Now it's 10.0.0.55.
I have the same problem using LMS 7.7.2 on a ReadyNas NV+. The Scan terminates unexpectedly and deleting the files it seems to get stuck on doesnt seem to help. It gets stuck on different files everytime and the more files it scans the slower it gets until it hangs. Sometimes it reports that it has finished scanning my collection when it hasn't. Also when doing a clean scan the file count is different everytime, and the checking new music count is different from the file count (with a clean scan evertime) I was using the same music directory on a PC running LMS and it didnt get stuck with that setup, so I think it is something to do with running LMS on ReadyNas. I have reverted back to earlier versions of LMS with no improvement. I can only access just over half my music at best. By the way I have about 40000 files and the Readynas box apart from the errors mentioned above is virtually unuseable as the web interface is WAY too slow to use. I have 1G Ram installed in the NV+ in vain hope that it would improve things: it doesnt. Any Ideas? I am wasting a lot of time getting nowhere with this.
I think the basic problem is that the NV+ is just not suitable for LMS, which needs a computer to run normally. I don't know if the fault lies with the programmers at Logitech or with Netgear, but they both need to take some of the blame for allowing it to be published far and wide - with the aid of the IT press, of course - that the combination was workable. It is simply NOT workable. I have to wait something like 10-20 seconds just for the list of Albums or Artists to pop up, and browsing my music folder is impossible. Like you I also spent money to upgrade the memory, and there's no difference. I've written the whole thing off as a bad purchase.
