Bugzilla – Bug 17518
Touch and Radio lose mySB.com connection since 7.6.1
Last modified: 2011-10-04 03:20:10 UTC
I have this issue since a week (in Europe) since last update on bot devices (radio and Touch) : My Touch and my Radio lost their names and are called "Nil". Can't listen a radio stream or use an app : I hear a "beep" if I choose a preset, but no music. Menu is incomplete. Presets don't work Menu items are missing : my favorites, internet radios, may apps... Can't listen to a radio as no stream is available. Sometimes it works with turning off then on, but not always. Sometimes when reconnecting to my internet connection form the menu advanced parameters. It hapens every day and several times day. Note that testing connection to mySB.Com (from the menu of the device) give no problem at all! But can't use my devices however... Of course, my internet/wifi connection are ok at this time and my Boom is playing music... 7.6.1 (9482 radio) (9486 touch)
Note that Boom can stop streaming when issue occurs, it seems it have less problem than radio and Touch.
No idea if it's a bug or not - similar symptoms as you report. But I'll vote for anything that fixes the daily chaos of connecting since the weekend past.

I experience the same as described by ssnickerss@orange.fr also since about a week My best guess is that it started after an upgrade
Exactly the same for me after updated SBRadio with 7.6.1
i experience exactly the same problems since the last update!
Same Problem with my three radios after the 7.6.1 Update
Having the same problem everyday..
I have two squeezebox radios. The last update is causing new problems. Several times a day it resets the squeezebox name to "nil" on all boxes. They lose their menu, except 2 items - "my music" and "setting". Everything else is gone. I have to reset the boxes and have to give them a new name to connect to mySB.com. No squeezebox-server is running in my network. Some times a day the boxes lose connection to the server and stop playing. For the future, please deliver us no beta-testing updates anymore. Location: Europe SB-Radio: Hardware Version 5 Firmware: 7.6.1 r9482
I have exactly the same with my SB Touch. After a few hours connected to mySB, the SB renames itself 'nil' having lost connection. This NEVER happened with any firmware before the latest one - I've run Squeezeboxes for 4+ years and the Touch since the day it came out in the UK.
My setup: - SB Radio (latest 7.6.1 FW) - SB Boom (latest FW) - Not synced - Connected directly to mysqueezebox.com - Europe/Sweden Behaviour: - On SB Radio connection drops, name resets to "nil", most menu items disappear (interestingly I have Spotify at the top of the home menu, and that remains listed and playable once the connection is restored) - On SB Boom connection drops, player has more trouble than usual trying to reconnect, buttons on player sluggish/unresponsive (as for other users my Boom is generally more robust than my Radio) - Weak wifi is often a problem for my SB Radio, but not for the SB Boom which is very close to the router

I'd like to know if everyone seeing this problem has more than 1 player on their SN account, and more specifically if you have players at multiple locations (different IP addresses) such as home and work.
I have this problem and i have only ONE device, a squeezebox radio. Today it stopped working for two times, and if i try to reach mysqueezebox.com on my laptop it says bad gateway.
(In reply to comment #14) No, just one player, and I'm only using it at home.
OK thanks, I'm on the trail of a different bug I guess.
Andy, I have 3 devices at home. But friends with only one have the problem too. It seems the problem get worst : Last week I have to restart both Radio and Touch every day, one time a day. Because menu where incomplete, presets not working, can't listen to a radio. It is as if devices were not connected to mysb.com Since last days, the previous issue occurs several times a day. And now my Boom stops streaming too. When mySB.com seems down, it can last 30 min. During the outage, if I reboot my Radio I have a red icon but my wifi/internet are ok. With previous fw I had not his problem. Please note that now Squeezebox devices are not usable as music stops often, need to restart them to reconnect to mySB.com (or they stay not connected) and now they can't connect to mySB.com for half an hour. Feel free to ask me if you need more informations. André.
From my experience the bug happens most when connected to mysqueezebox.com Connecting to the SBServer makes it possible to listen to internet radio after all. Renamed to Nil and lost most menu items. Reset solved it (temporarily).
Is everyone having this problem in Europe? Or is this problem also present on the other side of the atlantic?
I have the same problem with my SB Radio. It is quiet annoying. I am from UK.
Have 3 squeezebox radio with the same problem. the squeezebox name is changing to "nil". They also always try to change between two diffrent firmware version. When the Squeezebox is on the net (wlan) I have problems with some other PC's to connect them to to the network and also to the internet, as i think caused that the network card (ethernet & wlan) gets ip addresses out of the range of the modem/router. So if I have the range 192.168.0.1 etc. they get 192.168.254.... something else.
I'm in Belgium and have the same issues, squeezebox radio showing up as 'nil', lost all presets, very limited menu, etc. Sometimes a reboot helps, or connecting to the server running on my laptop. Very annoying bug!
So from what I can gather this problem is on the radios and touches only. And so far only in Europe. I am in the UK to
I am in France
I'm in Sweden. Got some "blackouts" yesterday, but it seems to have worked for almost 7 hours now (from 07.00 CET).
Same issue here in Italy. My setup: 1 boom, 1 touch 1 radio, all with last fw. Touch and Radio often connected with mysqueeze loose their name changing it to NIL. Boom loose connection with msq but the name ramain.
Same in Ireland, regular MSB.COM drop outs are driving me crazy, even reinstalling latest firm ware is impossible as SB.com is unavailable. Please provide some information... is this being investigated or even acknowledged by logitec??
(In reply to comment #24) > So from what I can gather this problem is on the radios and touches only. And > so far only in Europe. > > I am in the UK to As noted in mine and other comments then the Boom is also affected, though to a lesser extent. From what I've seen here and in SlimDevices and Logitech forums it does seem to be Europe only, perhaps specifically those connected to DataCentre EU-West. This guy has an eloquent summary: http://forums.logitech.com/t5/MySqueezebox-com-Squeezebox/Inadequate-server-capacity-for-mysqueezebox-com/td-p/678138 I am also in Sweden and I agree with Staffan #26 that the service was much improved today, but bombed out again shortly after 18:00 CET I think it was. I'm rolling out a MySB change that should detect players with this connection problem and help them recover from the situation. This will take an hour or so to become active, let me know if you notice any improvements after that.
Ok, I will tell you if I notice a new behaviour. Is it connected with 7.6.1 or with an update of mySB.com ? I don't think our internet connexion has something to do with that. Thank you.
It's because you write about a connection problem, and I wonder how it happens and from what it comes...
2 August 2011: Running for 3 hours with no problems!
My SB Radio has now been up and continiously playing for 10 hours! This never happend before :) Thanks for the good work!!
Hi all, can report same problems out of Germany. After last firmware update my squeezebox touch permanently resets the player's name to africa's most famous river. Also it often turns in stand-by mode by itself. Hope this bug will be fixed soon...rather annoying one...

Seems to be working in Ireland ok 4 hours up time thisevening
Hi Andy! My radio is working! Well done! Big THANK YOU from Northern Ireland! ;) Have a great weekend! I love my Squeezebox Radio again! ;)
@Andy : Last few days my devices work without disconnecting, your mySB.com change has fixed the issue. Thank you and we hope it will last!
Greetings from Sweden! I didn't get a chance to test during the weekend. But today I left my player running for over 5 hours and the problem didn't show. Excellent! Thanks so much to Andy Grundman for a job well done, and to ssnickerss@orange.fr for entering a bug report here.
Here in Italy it's ok! Good work thanks!
I'm finding this a little better (no complete loss of connection) but am still getting the 'nil' issue, and have started to get short sound dropouts too. I'm connecting via MySqueezebox rather than though my own server. Is there something I need to do to get this fix to work?
Dropouts - BBC? Nothing to do with the fix. It's a BBC problem.
(In reply to comment #44) > Dropouts - BBC? Nothing to do with the fix. It's a BBC problem. Yes, it is on BBC stations. Thanks for clearing that up.
