Description junkersjim 2011-08-23 14:52:26 UTC
I submitted a ticket on the Logitec Support website (110822-000988) along with debug log traces and further info, but the lack of response has prompted me to post it here instead, this is probably where it belongs I think (Ive not submitted one before) :

============================================================================

I have three squeezebox booms and a Duet. The Booms are ALL on firmware version 57. They all run off the same Squeezeboxserver Version: 7.6.1 - r33110 @ Thu Aug 18 03:22:35 PDT 2011 running on Ubuntu 10.4.

The latest squeezebox Boom (as per details in drop down boxes) powers itself on and, much of the time, plays the last played track or radio station at apparently random times - for example at 2:30 am the other night, then again at 6:30am and then again around 7am. None of the other Squeezeboxes have ever done this.

Originally I was running 7.5.5 on Squeezeboxserver, but upgraded to the latest 7.6.1 Beta after reading of a similar sounding issue for the Logitec Radio. However upgrading has not resolved my issue.

There are NO (read Zero) alarms set for the Squeezebox in question, which in the attached logs you will see as MAC 00:04:20:1f:93:e2 or "Colin's Squeezebox". One of the other Squeezeboxes, JJs Squeezebox, does have alarms set for around 7:30am, but not for 2:30am or other random times in the middle of the night. These alarms all work as expected.

The attached logs have many debug flags turned on in my desperate attempts to find out why Im being woken in the early hours of the morning. However Ive failed to find anything after emailing various developers, and we now believe this to be a squeezebox/Logitec issue. Somewhere in the coverage of the attached logs the Squeezebox Boom in question has powered itself on since I went to bed last night with it MOST DEFINITELY turned off, and awoke with it playing a radio station - I cant tell what time it powered itself on as I remembered to turn the volume right down this time.

At the time of each issue the Squeezebox remote is placed on top of the unit. The other squeezeboxes are located in different rooms, with their remotes likewise placed. My wireless network uses WPA2 encrytption with MAC verification and a very strong password. My network (including Squeezebox server) is not accessible externally. My dog cannot climb to be able to operate the Squeezebox, and he sleeps locked up in the bathroom anyway.

Please can you help me resolve this issue quickly, its losing me a lot of sleep when I forget to pull the power out of the device or turn the volume down before going to bed, which is the only way to prevent this.

the auto_cc field for Squeezebox Boom->UI was a comical set of me, Tom, and Richard. I changed that auto_cc setting to Felix, and manually cc:ed Felix, Michael and Andy, who are the three most likely to help prioritize a fix from the engineering side now.

Jim - you forgot to attach the log file.

Let me summarize: one of your Booms is powering up automatically, even though no alarm for it is set. Others have alarms, but at different times. Andy they are not synchronized.

When the sound goes off, is the screensaver in alarm mode or normal playback?

Boom turns itself on, debug traces enabled

This is a large file capturing the time period when the Squeezebox Boom turned itself on. See the ticket for details, but the errant Squeezebox is named "Colins Squeezebox". You will see two other Booms in there, and there's also a duet which should have been powered off.

Your summary is correct but might be more accurate as :

one of my Booms is powering up at different times, so far only overnight, and playing the last played album/radio station at the last selected volume level automatically, even though no alarm for it is set. Others have alarms, but at different times.

And :
Andy they are not synchronized. - I have synchronised some of them, but they have not been synced recently.

And :
When the sound goes off, it is in normal playback mode (I use Music Information Screen 4.4.7 on all my Booms) and continues playing indefinitely until manually turned off (well, for at least 10 hours I do know).

Sorry, I didnt know if you had access to the Logitech ticketing system or not. Ive attached the log which captures one of the unrequested power ons when the Boom played music until manually powered off again. I had set some debug flags so the file is large.

Ill copy my later comments from the Logitech ticket below in case they're any use :

==============================================================================
21/8 : Just looking at the Squeezebox server web interface, it tells me that as of 09:25 am the radio on the Boom in question has been playing for around 10 hours and 13 minutes. So that suggests it was certainly powered on at around 11:10pm (approx) last night, although the logs suggest it may have been playing other stuff prior to that. But this will hopefully give some pointers for diagnosis of the logs. Given they contain logs for a total of 4 Squeezeboxes and debug log entries I thought this might be of some help.
==============================================================================
22/8 : Update as of 23rd August. The Squeezebox Boom in question turned itself on again last night, and as of approximately 08:20am the web interface indicates the internet radio has been playing for 4 hours and 8 minutes, which indicates it has been playing since at least 4:15am this morning (I remembered to turn the volume down as I made sure it was switched off last night).
23/8 : This morning the Squeezebox in question came on (according to the time playing in the web interface) at 5:08am.

Yep, same again this morning - came on middle of the night, but a different time again, played the last played music (internet radio station). at least this is consistent.

I computer literate if you need me to run some debug/trace code.

Assuming it's always the same box, could you swap it with one of the other booms? Or connect it to mysb.com instead of your local server.
Comment 8 Michael Herger 2011-08-25 01:57:51 UTC
Oh, and please disable all 3rd party plugins. DynamicPlayList and SyncOptions sound like good candidates to cause some such behaviour.

I dot get what you mean by swap the box? I have three Booms, they are all always connected, each is used daily. Im not sure how I would swap them, but if you can explain Id be glad to.

Ive got over a dozen plugins, and they've all been loaded for months without issue, so Ive disabled the ones you mentioned plus AllQuiet which Id loaded recently.

No. No difference whatsoever. Turned it off last night, its on again this am merrily playing away (with the volume turned down).

Please disable _all_ 3rd party plugins. Just to make sure it's not one of them.

What I wanted to say is take your kitchen boom to the bedroom, and the bedroom boom to the kitchen (or wherever they are). Just to make sure it's not some environmental issue causing this.

Ah right, got you now :-)

OK, moved it last night, to a completely different room (which has no other squeezeboxes in it, nor any electronics some to that) and it merrily came and started playing internet radio (the last thing it did) on all by itself again sometime during the night.
