Description Jeff 2011-08-07 04:08:12 UTC
Getting the same error message for a series of M4A files that I believe are tagged correctly and normally, having tagged them myself with Foobar2000.

Sample error message:
[11-08-06 17:22:09.3874] Slim::Utils::Scanner::Local::__ANON__ (699) ERROR SCANNING file:///home/administrator/Squeezebox-links/Squeezebox-1/NotDTS/Revealing%20World%20Religions/Buddhism.m4a: Unable to read tags from file

Works under older SBS versions (below 7.6.0) but does not work with 7.6.0 and above.

Current test setup info:
Logitech Media Server Version: 7.7.0 - r32999 @ Sat Aug 6 02:04:17 PDT 2011

I've just installed 7.6.1 and see that this issue does not exist there. However, under LMS 7.7.0 - r33300 @ Sat Sep 3 02:04:44 PDT 2011, browsing to the directory where these files reside via Music Folder shows "Empty".

More information can be found in the forums at
http://forums.slimdevices.com/showthread.php?p=681199#post681199

In my case:
- At least some m4a files with only audio tracks scan and display in the library correctly.
- All m4a files containing audio and images do not scan correctly and do not display in the library.

All the m4a files downloaded from CBC Radio 3 exhibit this behaviour.

These files were processed properly in a previous version of the server.

Ah yes...now that you made me look, I see that the files I'm having trouble with do indeed have embedded images.

I can confirm that the problem is still there in version 7.7.2 - r33761 @ Fri Dec 23 02:02:50 PST 2011.

All my mp4 audio files are skipped. They do have album art in it, or multiple images that are shown during playing on an iPhone. I don't know from which version there where not scanned anymore, but the files are not changed in between.

So I don't see why the images should be the problem, because the images where there from the beginning and older version of LMS could read/scan them.

But if it is clear that it are the embedded images, than there could be some code to skip the image information part in the file? Removing all the embedded images is not something I would like to do :(

I have uploaded the file Barbra_Streisand_bug_17408.m4a to hybridized.org://incoming as suggested in http://wiki.slimdevices.com/index.php/Large_File_Upload.

This file could be scanned and played with an earlier version of LMS, but not with 7.7.1.
