Description CatLogitech 2011-08-02 13:16:15 UTC
Since the latest Update to 7.6 Squeezebox Touches and Squeezebox Radios screens turn on when set to time and date.

This is happening to more people since the update who it did not happen to before, so may not be related to older bugs.

It seems to happen when the router contacts the player in some way (new IP?)
Comment 1 ScottB 2011-08-02 14:34:19 UTC
Without changing anything else, after updating my SB Touch to firmware 7.6.0 it now comes out of the screensaver I've selected (Digital Clock (Black)) when I turn on my wireless router. It changes to the Now Playing screen and the banner across the top says either When off or When stopped. I double-checked the screensaver settings and they are unchanged. The unit operates normally at other times.
Comment 2 ScottB 2011-08-03 07:18:31 UTC
I have some more info now. The switch from Digital Clock (Black) to the Now Playing screen happens after internet connect, not wireless. I left the wireless router on, so no IP address changes, and pulled the cable from the router to the cable modem. I left it disconnected for a few minutes and then plugged it in, and a few seconds later the Touch changed screens.
Comment 3 ScottB 2011-08-03 07:39:34 UTC
Oh, and I should add that touching the Back arrow returns the Touch to the clock. And, sometimes shortly thereafter it returns to Now Playing again, and I have to hit Back again. I've never seen it do it three times in one session, though.

Possible clue

SB Radio - 7.6.0 r9458 connected to mysb.com

After about three days while it stayed turned off, this morning it was on and sitting on the Now Playing screen (stopped - no music).

The log shows it received a 'serv' command to connect to www.squeezenetwork.com which made it reconnect as before it was connected to baby.squeezenetwork.com

So it looks like the mixup is between "baby.*" and "www.*".

Thanks for the notification, Felix. I'd assumed that this and 17317 were the same bug, since I'm seeing both of them (some players synced, some never synced).
Comment 8 Felix Mueller 2011-08-06 05:38:25 UTC
This is easily reproducible now that I figured out how to provoke it.

- For a player connected to mysb.com and soft off use an ethernet connection via a switch then disconnect the ethernet cable at least 2 minutes. Upon reattaching it the player switches to the NP screen.

- For a player connected to an SbS and soft off you can just stop and start SbS to have the player switch to the NP screen.

Hi Ian

Thanks for your info. I have not yet looked into a synced setup. So, yes, it could be that they are the same. But for now I'd like the two bugs separated.

My comments are similar to the others. When I turn on my router in the morning and the wifi (internet) is up and running my three squeezebox radios turn ON. The screen that was last up appears. I have to manually turn them OFF. Otherwise I have no other issues with them concerning update 7.6. Everything else is as it was before the update. I hope that there will be a fix coming soon as this is annoying albeit not earth shattering! Thank you

SB Touch is turning on unexpectedly several times a day after upgrade to 7.6. This happens after the PC running SBS boots up in the morning, and after any subsequent reboots. I am not sure yet whether anything else triggers it. Also, this unexpected turn-on comes up with a 'when off' screen showing the most recent item played, rather than the blank screen defined in 'settings'.
Comment 12 B. Scheiner 2011-08-06 17:54:59 UTC
My Duet receiver turned itself on once but has not done it again for over a week. My Touch turns itself on almost every day, at different times. My wireless router is on 24/7 so in my case it's not related to rebooting. Also, even though I generally use the remote to operate the Touch and the Controller only for the Duet, when the Touch turns itself on the screen on the Controller changes to show the last station played on the Touch, even if it's set to control the Duet. When I turn the Touch off manually, I then have to remove the Controller from its charging base, press the "home" button and put it back into the base in order to get it back to screensaver mode (it will not change back by itself).

I hope this information is useful, and I'm glad someone has finally been assigned to tackle this problem.
Comment 13 B. Scheiner 2011-08-06 18:08:15 UTC
After reading some of the other comments, especially the one about the problem occurring when the writer connected to the Internet, I shut my computer down completely without disconnecting my wireless router (actually a combo wireless router/modem supplied by Verizon Fios) and restarted it again, then brought up my browser (Firefox). No problem. Then I brought up Internet Explorer. No problem. So in my case it doesn't seem to be related to connecting to the Internet. But since it generally happens while no-one is home and at random times, I cannot determine what triggers it.
Comment 14 ssnickerss 2011-08-07 15:12:37 UTC
Since last update I find my Radio and my Touch turning on with the Now Playing screen (stopped - no music).
A friend has the same problem with his radio.
My Boom stays off.
I'm sure the last fw is the origin of the problem.

No device sync.
Use wifi connection.

Thank you.
Comment 15 Mickey Gee 2011-08-08 09:38:46 UTC
This is the "turns ON after awhile but not immediately" issue and does not have sync turned ON.

Will update beta 7.6.1 firmware for Radio to confirm this issue is addressed.

FWIW: the power on event is definitely due/linked to the serv command. I've monitored my baby connected to test.sn.com, and whenever the serv message came, it powered on:

Not that turning off then on wifi make Radio and Touch turning on (last station played, no sound). This happends every time I have tried you can try it !!!

(My 2 devices are wifi connected)
Comment 18 Christian 2011-08-08 11:42:45 UTC
Restarting SB Server also switches on SB Radio.
Since Latest Nightly with latest FW for SB Touch at least Touch will stay off and does not switch itself on.

New FW for SB Boxes is on its way!

With new FW that was pushed out tonight at least restarting SB Server does not make the SB Radio / Touch switch itself on.
So the bug might be sorted out.

Is this through the server 7.6.1 beta or though mysqueezebox.com?

What is the version numbers for the SB Radio/Touch?
Comment 21 Christian 2011-08-08 14:46:44 UTC
It's SB Server 7.6.1-r33011 on my QNAP.
FW version for SB Radio/Touch/Controller is Latest Nightly 7.6.1-r9468.

Radio/Touch/Controller noticed themselves that there was a new FW puched out and I could download and install it on my boxes.

Sorry, it's Latest Nightly of SB Server 7.6.1-r33011 and not Latest Nightly of the Boxes' FW ;)
Comment 23 B. Scheiner 2011-08-08 19:43:55 UTC
The blue light is on my Duet receiver and my Touch can't connect, and network health is red. My other 2 Internet radios (which work off the Frontier Silicon WiFi portal) are working perfectly. Are you guys fooling around with the software again? The other 2 radios (2 different brands) always work perfectly. Only yours give me problems. Why can't yours work like theirs?
Comment 24 Felix Mueller 2011-08-08 23:55:19 UTC
Firmware version 7.6.1 r9468 (SB Touch and SB Radio) fixes this issue for me - at least I cannot reproduce it by the steps I outlined in comment 8.

I assume the fix that Alan provided for bug 17317 also fixes this issue.
Comment 25 Andy Grundman 2011-08-09 05:26:40 UTC
Yeah this one is fixed.
Comment 26 B. Scheiner 2011-08-09 18:04:09 UTC
Great, the bug has been fixed. But both my Touch and my Duet still have the old firmware (7.6.0r9458) and no option yet for updating to 7.6.1r9468. For users of the products, the "fix" is not a fix until we can download it. When do we get it?
