Description collett_steve 2011-07-30 05:06:24 UTC
This issue exhibits itself in 2 different ways.

1) Albums appear more than once for the same track. For example, in my collction, the album "the age of plastic" has only one track in it (one music file). This album appears multiple times in the album listing for the same track. It should obviously only appear once.

2) Albums are "fragmented" into multiple albums with the same name with the majority of tracks in one album and the remainder (ususally one track) in a duplicate

This behaviour was not present on 7.5.1

Whilst it has been noted that the the new scanner in 7.6.x is more sensitive to minor anolalies in metadata, example 1) clearly illustrates a bug with the scanner, as the source metadata for the duplicated albums is coming from one file only.

Full rescans do not change the behaviour. This issue can be replciated at will.

The attachment shows the metadata for the duplicated album example, and the duplciated albums in the web interface.

Can you attach a screenshot of the extended tags from mp3tags?
Comment 4 Kurt Poulsen 2011-07-30 15:29:12 UTC
I have tried to verify this, but I can't get it to happen no matter how I set up the tags for the mp3-file.
I have tried it with both the "albumartists" tag and the "Album Artists" tag. Neither of them gives the result that the reporter have.

My tags for the mp3 file.

This set up only gives 1 entry in the album menu.

Following a comment in the forums about this issue, I can now confirm that the issue relates to tracks which appear in playlists.

If the track appears in a playlist, then the track (album) will be duplicated.

I have prooved this by removing the playlist folder from settings completley, then clearing everything and doing a ful rescan.

After the rescan, the duplicates dissapear.

When the playlist foler is present and another rescan is done, the duplicates re-appear.

I can't verify this.
If I add the mp3-file to a playlist it doesn't appears twice in the album-list.

Okay I have confirmed this. It is a bit of a special setup but here it is:

First I have SBS installed on a pc and my music placed on a server called Server.

The music is placed on \\Server\Music and this is attached as a network-drive on my pc as Z:. So from my pc with SBS I can acces the music by z:\

My playlists is also placed on the server on \\Server\Playlist but this is not attached to my pc as a network drive.

The path to the music in the playlists is:

\\Server\Music\The Buggles\The age of plastic\Video killed the radiostar.mp3

So now SBS scans the music from z:\ and the playlists from \\Server\Playlist

If I have this setup and the playlists has the UNC path to music then the albums appears twice in the album list.

I have noway of finding out how 7.5.5 does this, so I can't confirm if this is a bug or not. Or this is just one of the many things 7.6.x won't handle for us anymore.

Sample M3U playlist file

Heres the offending playlist file. I think that the UNC paths are causing the scanner to report duplicates.
The playlist file was created on a client PC which is mapping to the server folder, which is why you see UNC paths.

This behaviour certainly was not present in 7.5.1 or before. I`ve run SBS for just over a year and until going to 7.6, I never had this problem.

I have done another test which is showing very strange behaviour

I have changed the server settings to look for music in \\server\music and playlists in \\server\music\playlists.

Did a cleanup, followed by a complete rescan. Still have the same duplicates.

Somehow, even though the playlist and the scnner are using UNC paths, I still get the same duplciated files.

Even more strange, removing the playlist folder and performing a full rescan again removes the duplicates, suggesting this is still related to the playlists (which are now using the same UNC path as squeezebox server)

Putting the playist folder back into the settings (still using a UNC path, like the playlists) results in the duplicates coming back.

I cannot confirm the last entry. When I change the music library to using UNC-paths (\\Server\Music instead of Z:\) then the duplicates go away. And it doesn't matter if I am placing the playlists in \\Server\PlayList or \\Server\Music\Playlist.

Are you still using 7.6.0? Because if you are you should try 7.6.1, which is the one I am using for testing.

I am not sure it's possible to fix this when using drive letters combined with playlists containing UNC paths. Thoughts?

Version: 7.6.1 - r33110 has fixed this bug - I no longer get duplicate entries in the library.
