Bugzilla – Bug 17068
Lost Artwork playing radio stations
Last modified: 2016-10-17 13:27:38 UTC
Firmware 7.5.3-r9283. Suddenly lost all artwork when playing all radio stations using mysqueezebox.com. Just displays default radio tower. Artwork displays when using squeezebox server. Tried resetting to original factory setting, made no difference. Don't know what to try next, others are also having this problem. Thanks
Same situation on my radio.

firmware ! 7.5.4.r9408 - same situation.
there may be a clue to what is going on in bug 17128
I also have a customer with the exact same issue. Has the most up to date firmware, 7.5.4. This only happens when using stations that are preset. When they are not preset stations there is no issue with the artwork for the station and the artwork shows fine.
Case # 110529-001299 Not able to see the Artwork on the Preset button. The following stations can be searched via Internet Radio>Search and you will be able to see the Artwork. We have tried this on two different Firmwares (7.5.4 and 7.6.0)neither of them helped. Thank you.
I too am experiencing this problem. I have two radios and was puzzled that I usually could see the art on one radio but almost always saw the antennae on the other. After reading the comments here I realize that it is the radio on which I set the presets that I can't see the art.
Only listening to Radio Luxembourg I can see the artwork..
I have a variation on this. The SB Radio gets into a state where the whole Now Playing display is broken. No image, or rarely a broken image is shown, text may or may not be shown, the dot that shows how far through a podcast or file you are rapidly gets right to the right hand side even if I'm nowhere near the end. This seems to require a reboot to fix it. On other occasions when playing files from my SBS that have no associated image sometimes a picture from something else I played earlier is shown but stretched vertically. This corrects without a reboot. I think it's always the same files that do this as if, perhaps, some particular sequence(s) of bytes in the file header trigger it. Received new firmware last night (7.6), hoped it would fix missing artwork problem. Now I don't even have the default radio tower, just a blank screen. Artwork still displays correctly when using squeezebox server.
I also updated my Squeezebox Radio with the new Firmware (7.6), hoping it would fix missing artwork problem. Now I don't even have the default radio tower, just a blank screen. I do not use Squeezebox Server. --------------------------------------------------------------------------------

As you can see from the opml.radiotime.com listing, they are all coming from TuneIn. I am unsure if TuneIn changed something on their side but it seems as tho some changes are needed with the app on our side. -Daniel Bird
latest firmware (7.6) on my squeezebox.com- now I have the turn on issue (already voted on that) whereby multiple radios turn on on their own, fortunately "paused". One radio simply shows black screen (no radio art).
I was experiencing a lack of "real artwork" and seeing only the tower with 7.5.4. I have now updated to 7.6.1 and the condition still exists, except now, instead of seeing the tower I see nothing. Interestingly, I have two radios, with the same firmware and settings. It is the older one that sees no art; but the "real art" appears on the newer one. This puzzles to me and makes me wonder if the problem is with the physical radio. Suzan
Are all of you on mysb.com or is anybody using their own Squeezebox Server?
I am on mysb.com. I do not use Squeezebox Server.
(In reply to comment #16) > Are all of you on mysb.com or is anybody using their own Squeezebox Server? If I use the Squeezebox server the artwork displays correctly, but when I use squeezebox.com the artwork doesn't display. I mainly listen to the radio at night and don't want to keep my computer running. Squeezebox.com should work, it did at one time. Now I just get a blank screen.
Thanks guys. I'm pretty sure I've found the reason for the "black hole instead of antenna" issue on mysb.com _only_. I'll see what's wrong with the real artwork in a next step.
(In reply to comment #13) > Customer called in and provided me with a few stations that are not displaying > artwork. > ... It changed for me when My SqueezeBox Radio upgraded it's firmware from 7.5.4 to 7.6. Using my own SqueezeBox server I think everything is as before but using mysqueezebox.com stations with no artwork don't show the tower (just blank) and stations with artwork usually show nothing (blank) or I think some only show artwork momentarily and one or two seem to only show artwork after pressing >> to force a reconnect.

Playing from presets wouldn't show any metadata at all, only the title as stored in the preset pref.
I just can't seem to reproduce this bug. Been testing with a Radio on production (and Test SN) with both items from the radio menu as well as presets, and everything shows artwork and metadata just fine. Can anyone help with more detailed steps to reproduce?
Ok, the missing metadata seems to have been due to the preset being the "final" mms url, whereas starting playback from the menu would have used a radiotime url. After re-setting the preset, it seems to be fine now.
Ok, so here's what I'm seeing: - When I start playback from the internet radio directory, the server would fetch metadata from radiotime.com. This would look like eg.: [11-08-11 06:13:51.1445] Slim::Plugin::RadioTime::Metadata::_gotMetadata (190) { items => [ { guide_id => "s15455", image => "http://radiotime-logos.s3.amazonaws.com/p258464q.png", items => [], key => "station", name => "DRS 3 99.3", preset_id => "s15455", type => "text", url => undef, value => "DRS 3 99.3", }, { duration => 18000, guide_id => "p258464", items => [], key => "show", name => "Sounds!", seconds_remaining => 10017, type => "text", url => undef, value => "Sounds!", }, { items => [], name => "content", type => "text", url => undef, value => "content", }, { items => [], name => "2h, 46m remaining", type => "text", url => undef, value => "2h, 46m remaining", }, ], title => "", type => "opml", } - a little later we'd detect that the stream has metadata in its stream, which causes the server to no longer fetch metadata from radiotime. Unfortunately the stream's metadata doesn't have information about artwork: [11-08-11 06:13:54.9940] Slim::Plugin::RadioTime::Metadata::parser (50) http://opml.radiotime.com/Tune.ashx?id=s15455&formats=aac,ogg,mp3,wmpro,wma,wmvoice&partnerId=16&serial=28c1d5e43445d86f6e7c70693ad6062cStreamTitle='DRS 3, Dein Live-Radio. Im Internet unter www.drs3.ch.'; -> artwork disappears Interestingly the artwork would be shown again if the server restarted while the player was still streaming.

With your fix do you now correctly get the default Tower artwork rather than a blank screen when playing a simple stream with no artwork while connected to mysqueezebox.com ?
(In reply to comment #28) > With your fix do you now correctly get the default Tower artwork rather than a > blank screen when playing a simple stream with no artwork while connected to > mysqueezebox.com ? Yes, see comment #21. But please note that these changes have not been rolled out to production systems yet. They're only available on test.mysqueezebox.com
Sorry, but 7.6.1 restored the default radio tower, but not the station artwork that radio stations provide.
(In reply to comment #30) > Sorry, but 7.6.1 restored the default radio tower, but not the station artwork > that radio stations provide. Could you please tell me what station you're trying, and how you access it?

I Was trying to play WABC (New York), but none of my presets display artwork. I have the same problem even when I play try to play a searched radio station. No matter which method I choose I don't get artwork. When I use squeezebox server everything works OK. Thanks
> I Was trying to play WABC (New York), but none of my presets display artwork. Would artwork be shown if you selected it from the Internet Radio menu?
Updated to 7.6.1. Situation hasn't changed except now I see the tower rather than a blank screen on the radio using MySB. For me the puzzling part is that I have two radios, the newer one does show station art; the older one does not (though it did once.) I thought the problem was connected to presets but it isn't. Selecting a station directly from Internet Radio also shows tower but no station art. On the newer radio, I have noticed when a station comes in it will show the tower for a half second then the art slides in. This fails to happen on the older radio.
Please see my comment #33.
The same to me. Mysqueezebox = tower (all stations); Squeezebox server (on Synology NAS) = all is ok. I tryed within Internet Radio menu - only tower. So the bug is not solved yet.
(In reply to comment #33) > > I Was trying to play WABC (New York), but none of my presets display artwork. > > Would artwork be shown if you selected it from the Internet Radio menu? No, selecting from Internet Radio Menu still only shows tower.
Can't find "WABC (New York)", but is this the same as "77 WABC"? That latter does show artwork for me.
(In reply to comment #38) > Can't find "WABC (New York)", but is this the same as "77 WABC"? That latter > does show artwork for me. Maybe you use test.mysb.com. Because with mysb.com, here in Europe, we have only tower, no matter the radio we choose. I repet: with squeezebox server all is ok; with mysb.com, only tower.
> Maybe you use test.mysb.com. Because with mysb.com, here in Europe, we have > only tower, no matter the radio we choose. > I repet: with squeezebox server all is ok; with mysb.com, only tower. I'm connected to EUW and the artwork for aforementioned station is there if I select it from the Internet Radio menu.
(In reply to comment #41) I just tryed 77WABC. Tower, like all the others.
I an in England and my SB radio is now upgraded to FW 7.6.1 and I now get artwork or tower correctly whether I connect to mysqueezebox.com or to my own squeezebox server, except for the odd situation when something goes funny such as if I lose internet connectivity when I often need to re-boot everything before it works 100% right again. However I do wish that both towers were the same, and like the smaller one you get when connected to your own server. The stupid big one you get from mysqueezebox.com doesn't fit properly on the SB radio's little screen.
Michael, you might find a clue here. I have two radios, both using mysqueezebox.com. The newer one sees all radio station art; the older one sees radio towers, except on BBC stations where it properly sees the channel art. The older radio used to see station art but hasn't for months or years now. -Suzan

Michael, I see the radio tower on both presets and when I choose something from the Internet Radio Directory.
I received another firmware update this morning. Still no fix for missing artwork. Is anybody looking into this issue? Based on comments a lot of people have this issue.
New update, still no radio artwork
On Friday (9-March 2012) the tunein.com website went down. It came back up but now I know longer see radio station art on my Squeezebox Radio. Firmware 7.7.1-r9557. I only use mysqueezebox.com. Just displays default radio tower. Tried resetting to original factory setting, made no difference. Don't know what to try next, others are also having this problem. Thanks.

Thanks. That's exactly what happened to my radio when it started to display only the radio tower. Mysqueezebox server went down in the middle of the night, was listening to the radio at the time. When it came back up it only displayed the default radio tower. I doubt anyone is working on fixing this issue, it's been one year since I first reported the problem.
I am seeing the same problem on my Squeezebox Radio (run only from MySqueezebox.com, don't run a server myself). Some additional info that might be helpful: the issue also started a few weeks ago after some hiccup/network error that forced me to reboot the SB. After that the station I had been listening to at the time of the error, BBC Radio 4, still showed artwork - but it was the artwork of the show that was running at the time of the outage, it was not refreshed any more (BBC Radio doesn't run a static logo, it changes per program). Most other channels do not show artwork, except for (as far as I've been able to find) Radio Paradise, which still shows album art for the currently broadcast track. Odd thing: on some, but not all, of the stations that do not show artwork anymore, the text banner that should show program details now is static, showing only the station name. Reboot, reinstalling firmware (7.7.2 r9663), factory reset, changing over to a different MySqueezebox-account: tried it all, no luck. Hope this helps reproduction + fixing of this bug...
I will provide some more information, maybe it will help in resolving the issue: Squeezebox Radio Firmware version 7.7.2 r9663, hardware version 7. NO LMS in use! Connected to mysqueezebox.com only. The radio has been purchased approx. 1 week ago, and it was working without any problems. The artwork of almost all radio stations which I was receiving was present! A network problem, probably on the mysqueezebox server, caused a sudden reboot of the radio a few days ago. This reboot message was visible on the radio display with the request to send a failure report (which I did!). The radio was working again properly after the reboot, but no artwork was present from that moment, and in some cases the last displayed artwork just before the network problem occurred (logo of a particular Dutch station) pops up instead of the default radio tower which is now standard visible on almost all radio stations! However, some radio stations still show the artwork!!! The following radio stations show the album sleeve of the artist playing instead of the antenna tower (or Dutch station) logo!!! Sometimes the ‘Dutch logo’ is initially present on these stations just after tuning to it, and the correct logo appears after a while when a new song is played which means that the artwork is updated with new information from the radio stream: http://opml.radiotime.com/Tune.ashx?...0&partnerId=16 (SKY.FM Alt Rock (US)) http://opml.radiotime.com/Tune.ashx?...9&partnerId=16 (Psychedelic Jukebox) The following radio station has a ‘static’ logo, but that one has been replaced with the radio tower logo (no Dutch logo present at all, always the tower): http://opml.radiotime.com/Tune.ashx?...1&partnerId=16 (VRT Studio Brussel) So I am dealing with three different scenarios: (1) tower logo OR the ‘fixed’ logo of a Dutch radio station, (2) proper artwork (actively updated when a new song is played), and (3) the antenna logo always displayed….. I wonder what information in the radio stream is corrupted. Is there a way in which the radio stream is passing a kind of filter (probably on the mysqueezebox server) which matches the serial number/account information/firmware version of my radio? Some owners do have two SR radios, of which one is affected by this bug, and the other one is not). In that case the problem can be fixed (or introduced) by synchronizing the bad one to the good one and vice versa. This make me think of a problem that is NOT in the radio itself (re-installing of the firmware does not fix it) and might be present in the ‘grey area’ between the radio station and the individual radios. I hope that this information will help in fixing this annoying problem! I hope for a quick solution! Best regards from The Netherlands, Tom
Tom, You mentioned "So I am dealing with three different scenarios: (1) tower logo OR the ‘fixed’ logo of a Dutch radio station, (2) proper artwork (actively updated when a new song is played), and (3) the antenna logo always displayed….." I have a similar scenarios as yours except my (1) is a 'fixed' logo for Hawaiian 105 KINE. It sometimes shows up as the artwork on other stations that I go to. KINE was the station I was last listening to when on Friday (9-March 2012) the tunein.com website went down and my loss of artwork started. I hope the Logitech developers pickup on these common threads.
Yesterday,02-June-2013, the artwork returned to my Squeezebox Radio. I unplugged the radio and moved it from my bedroom to deck. After plugging it back in the artwork displayed on 3 of my preset stations that previously had no artwork. For those of you still experiencing this problem try unplugging/plugging your radio to see if this resolves the issue for you too.
Now that both migrating a Squeezebox Radio to UE and vice versa are supported, I have run the following scenario: (1) Migrate to UE. Radio shows correct station logos for stations. (2) Migrate back to Squeezebox and log in to MySqueezebox. Problem of most stations showing only the generic 'tower' artwork is still present. Ah, well, it was worth a try.
Wow... an old bug. And I think Kenneth's comment #50 was the clue after all: when a server instance has a hiccup while it should be looking up the station artwork, it can get stuck on the old or generic artwork. A flag "isFetchingArtwork" is set in the player's prefs which is never reset if the server process dies. I should fix this. It's only been around for something like what? 66 months?

I'm about to roll out a change to mysb.com which will hopefully fix this issue. Please let me know about your findings over the next few days. Thanks!
Haha, priceless, Michael. If fixing 66 months old bugs does not show your dedication, I don't know what does. We have a SB with that problem in the family, so I will let you know if we see any improvements.
Any feedback - good or bad? Can I assume this one fixed?
Just logged into MySqueezebox.com - these days I mostly run my Squeezebox radio from my own NAS-based server (a move made at least in part because of this bug...) I am very glad to report that all radio stations that were previously stuck on the generic artwork are now showing their own artwork again! Michael, thank you very much for your dedication in solving this old & obscure bug. Nico
Thanks. I'm going to assume this is fixed. Yay :-).
I was able to test today and am able to see all the radio station artwork.
