Description glmason 2005-06-21 05:38:54 UTC
After playing for a while the slim server service drops or loses connection,
or the the service stops, the WEB interface is then inaccessible. Seems to
happen when I try to change play lists, or in the middle of a play list while
the server is changing songs. So far I've not been able to exactly replicate
the problem.

I'm not sure of the "exact command line argument for getting the debugging or
where logs are keep. The service starts automatically on startup, and when I
have a problem I restart the service. I could put a command line argument in
the "path to executable" field of the service properties box would it
be "D:\path\SlimServer\server\slim.exe --diag" ?

I running on a PIV 2.99Ghz 1GB RAM using XP Pro, SP2.

Also, I'm running MusicMagic Mixer, and have it running as a service also
using srvany.exe (may have something to do with the problem, I started having
the problem after I got all CD converted and loaded on server and statered
using the MMM, problem is most noticable when using playlists. I not tried
using just Albums.

How large is the playlist that is playing? (Approx)

Your command line looks correct.

In order to isolate the problem - could you try running without MusicMagic?

Thanks.

Playlist are usually 20 songs.

It turns out that I'll have to edit the registery to add the arg... will try
that tonight.

The system has been running error free since turning off MMM. But I'll do more
testing tonight. But I'm beginning to think there is an interoperability issue
with MMM at least when it is running as a service...

I have been having the same problems since around the time of the first reporter
of this bug. Same symptoms - web interface hangs but SB works fine for browsing
and playing.

I can provoke it reasonably consistently by performing a search (from the
Default skin), although that's by no means the only way to make it hang. It
happens pretty regularly.

I'm running slimserver latest 6.1 (revision #3569 today), on Gentoo Linux.

I think something that may be significant is the browser - I'm using Firefox
1.0.4. When I view Slimserver through Internet Explorer, however, it seems to
work fine.

Do the other reporters of this bug run IE or FF, I wonder? I suspect it might be
something to do with that fancy stuff to try to make caching of images work
better, as I think that went in around the same time.

"Do the other reporters of this bug run IE or FF, I wonder?"

I'm running Safari on Mac OSX Tiger. I haven't tried other browsers yet to
see if the bug occurs on those as well.

I'm running with IE... but I've not really had the ploblem since I've stopped
running MusicMagic as a service, however I've not tried starting MMM as a
serive and seeing if the problem starts again, maybe I'll have time this
weekend.

In addition I just upgraded to 6.1b1 today, so I should try starting the MMM
runni9ng as a service again to see what happens.

I do hope that even if it is a bug that involves MMM it can be resolved as I
really like having the MMM service running and being able to make playlists
using MMM.

I believe my problem was actually 'piplining' being enabled in Firefox (which I
believe was today separately raised as bug #1755). I'm not sure if these two
bugs are duplicates, but I believe my problems are solved by turning off
pipelining ("network.http.pipelining" in about:config in Firefox).
Comment 7 KDF 2005-07-04 11:09:26 UTC
There was a recent fix to MMM, that closed off some http connections that had
been left open. Any 6.1 nightly build July 2 or newer should see the benefits of
this fix. This may have fixed the case of using IE while MMM is enabled.

Since Stuart's issue is cleared, we need a confirmation from glmason for MMM and IE.

Comment 8 glmason 2005-07-05 04:51:20 UTC
Will check it Wednesday night (6-6-05) and confirm the fix.
Comment 9 glmason 2005-07-06 19:23:02 UTC
Well I downloaded and installed the window executable from the nightlys
2005_07_06 but I've not been able to test it because there is now no MM
button. I've tried running the MMM as a service and I tried just running MMM
as an application. The serer must be running because the plugin does say that
thea MusicMagic is installed, but I can not get the MM buttons on the web
interface.

Comment 10 KDF 2005-07-06 19:37:41 UTC
try disabling and re-enabling in teh server settings->plugins.
Comment 11 glmason 2005-07-07 04:41:58 UTC
Well, well, well... I thought I did that but I guess not completely enough...
it works now, I test playlist and changing play list tonight so you can clear
up this bug.

Thanks!

This bug was marked resolved in Slimserver 6.1, which is several versions ago. If you're still seeing this bug, please re-open it. Thanks!
