Add option to enable streaming digital audio to USB port
Last modified: 2010-09-17 13:41:51 UTC
See this forums thread about adding a standard UI option to enable digital audio output to USB too. This would allow users to attach an outboard USB DAC for audio output, as recommended in the Stereophile October 2010 review, and prevent them from hassling with tweaking Linux files on their unit. http://forums.slimdevices.com/showthread.php?t=81346&page=11 Discussions include optionally enabling or disabling optical+S/PDIF, analog out, and USB DAC through changes to the ALSA driver config file. Maybe need to reboot Touch whenever you change this config file?
Yeah I agree this would be nice. Mickey: you should get some test hardware for us. :) This will also will need an ALSA update I believe, John Swenson has a patch for this.
Alan notes that there is more than one profile for a ASB audio device, and the ALSA update could be more difficult than we think. He has some experience with embedded linux USB audio from previous projects. We can consider it for the future. There are of course SPDIF and TOSLINK outputs for DACs as well :)
