Bugzilla – Bug 1645
SB2 display doesn't power off when server is not present
Last modified: 2008-12-18 11:37:19 UTC
I noticed the other night that the display on my SB2 was not actually powered down, but was merely not displaying anything. With no lights on in the room, I could see the display glowing slightly, and when I looked closely, I could see small lines of light down the left and right edges of the display. My server was off, so I couldn't turn the SB2 off - it simply said Connecting to SlimServer, then blanked the display if left alone. Is this the normal behaviour? I really don't want my SB2 on during the night as I imagine it will eat through a fair amount of power in this state, and the glowing screen is annoying. I intend to have my server turn itself off every night, so this would be a problem. This is particularly a problem as the SB2 enters the connecting state even if it was off at the point that the server turns off. This means that there is no way of turning off the SB2 when the server is off! I'm running the trunk of slimserver (currently at R3330). My SB2 is a black wireless model. My server runs Debian Sarge.
There is not really a power off on squeezebox, rather there's a standby mode, which usually is a clock. Even for the clock function, it needs to be connected to a server. the filaments in the display do draw some current, but it's not terribly much, and they have a very long life.
When the server is on, the SB2 "powers off" nicely - the display is completely dark. The semi-lit state only occurs when the server is off. Why can't the SB2 be changed to go to the unlit state when the server is off?
Ok, I see. The slightly glowing pixels at the edges are slightly visible when the player screen is blanked and not connected to a server. Reopening this bug. Thanks.
I see this too, but always attributed it to a secondary effect of bug 1398.
Updated firmware 13 to include a fix which removes the fuzzy pixels when there is no server present. (There's a separate bug about the fuzzy pixels in general...) Please try the latest nightly and force a firmware upgrade (press and hold BRIGHTNESS) and reopen if this issue is not resolved. tHanks.
Your fix has sorted it. Thanks very much for the quick response!
This bug was marked resolved in Slimserver 6.1, which is several versions ago. If you're still seeing this bug, please re-open it. Thanks!
