My Boom display sometimes stays on when I switch it off. The Boom is powered off but the display remains lit with most recent playlist displayed in UPPERCASE.

please contact support.  If you are connected to mysqeezebox.com, this is likely a connection issue instead of a bug in code.  The code provides display settings for off mode and does consistently follow them if the server connection is solid.
