Clock loses time after power down
Last modified: 2010-11-02 14:06:16 UTC
fw8673 After power is disconnected for a period of time. The clock and dependent functions (soft off screen savers) do not work until network access to MSB.com updates the time on the unit.
Steven clarifies: If the time isn't set (perhaps by being off the network and/or unpowered for a while), then the 'off' screensaver doesn't work. This leads to the user perception that their power button doesn't work, and allegedly has caused some RMAs. Felix notes that it was a design decision to not show the clock if the FW detects the time is wildly wrong (i.e. 1969) I have advised tech support that if they see the case where the power button doesn't work, to just advise the customer that after the unit is connected to the net and sets its time, it will again work correctly. For a longer term fix, we can consider showing a dark screen at power off.
