The favorites interface provides no way to add a favorited song to the currently playing queue. The "+" button displays the MRL of the song. "Play" plays the song immediately.

What interface? Player? Web? And what is the MRL of the song?

Interface: SqueezePlay (ie., SqueezeBox Radio).
MRL: Media Resource Locator(aka URL)

So instead of adding the song to the playlist it displays the song information. The songs are stored on a local squeezecenter server.
