I'm not using it, but I understand that Ubuntu 9.10 uses a new package manager. I don't know if it's just a new GUI, or if the changes are more fundamental than that. My guess is that you are trying to install the SbS deb package in a way that doesn't allow the package manager to evaluate and install dependencies.

If you're not familiar with the details of the new Ubuntu package manager, I suggest you post your question to the Squeezebox Unix/Linux forum.

Not doing anything with the package-manager GUI at all, just double-clicking
on the .DEB package that you uploaded.

Yes, it *could* be a bug with the pack-man.
Grabbed the available updates (one of them mentioned MySQL) and it still gets the error. Also tried installing MySQL 5 manually, but the .deb install still gets that error.

The 7.4.2 Deb package also gets this error on Kubuntu 9.10. Will try on plain Ubuntu.

I can right-click on the .DEb file and choose 'open with..."

This gives me a choice of 2 pkg-managers: 'GDebi Package installer' or the 'Kpackage Kit.' If I choose the Kpackage kit, it does try to resolve dependencies, and gets an error. There is a details button but it doesn't open. The 7.4.2 deb does the same. I believe the mySQL 5.0 server may no longer be available where our installer wants it to be. So I believe that the installer needs revision

In plain Ubuntu 9.10, there is still an issue with the dependencies (specifically MySQL) BUT the Gdebi app gives a helpful command to fix broken dependencies.
So the package *may* need some fixing but at least the workaround is provided in the Ubuntu build.

Package manger gives CMD for fixing missing dependencies

I get this CMD in Ubuntu 9.10 ---but not in Kubuntu (though it should work there)
Was able to get the SB 7.5 installed and playing thru a touch

Getting the fixed dependencies

This term window shows where it gets the better version of MySQL

Once I gave permissions it works as expected---noticed in Fedora that if I add a new folder of songs to the 'music' folder, it won't get picked-up by the re-scan unless I 're-apply' the permissions for the music folder by clicking the button for 'apply to enclosed folders' (in the 'sharing' tab of the music folder properties)

this comment was meant for another bug.

I tried this on my 9.10 ubuntu system (making sure I did not already have mysql installed) and didn't see the error.

I'm going to leave this open in case users start seeing it, but due to the generally self-supporting nature of our linux users, I'm not targeting it for 7.5.0.
