Description Cory Nielsen 2010-03-05 14:28:37 UTC
During tests of upgrading SBS 7.4.2 to 7.5.0, the player name (as displayed on the device and on the SBS Web UI) of a connected SB Touch was changed to "nil". This happened twice today, though it didn't happen every time I ran an SBS upgrade.

Two other devices (an SBS Radio and SBS Boom) were connected at the same time, and neither experienced this problem.

I also saw this recently but I am not sure of the exact circumstances.

Note that a Fab4 is not supported on 7.4 in the first place so I guess that this type of upgrade would be rare. I could imagine that the failure could be a side-efect of the test for 7.5 in the first place.

QA to verify this can't be reproduced with 7.5 builds

Oh Hi Cory, I didn't notice this was you when I first looked at this bug.

It's not a total surprise that Touch-related behavior might be bad upgrading from 7.4.2 (which has no Touch support) to 7.5.

If you haven't already, could I trouble you to try this while 'upgrading' from 7.5. to 7.5? If you leave 7.5 on at the end of the day, there will be a new version available the next morning, which might be a relatively painless test.

Chris, I'll test for this bug when upgrading between various versions of 7.5. I have three different builds saved that I can test with.

Ping Cory, any update?

So far, I have not seen this behavior while upgrading from one build of 7.5 to another.

Alan notes that once it says 'nil' that is the official name of the player. You will need to rename it to get rid of the name. If it resets again after that, then we have a problem, and we should reopen this!
Comment 8 Cory Nielsen 2010-03-26 10:32:48 UTC
I did manually rename the player from 'nil' back to SB Touch after the first time.

I also saw this once yesterday on a SB Radio while upgrading from 7.4.2 to 7.5.

Added a test case to the Server-Player interactions matrix.
