Bugzilla – Bug 15762
Polish translation for "Sign In" and "Sign Out" confusing
Last modified: 2010-03-10 05:42:09 UTC
Customer Support in Europe reports confusion by customers with the Polish translation: "The Polish version of the "Sign in" option is translated into "Register", which leads some customers to believe that they have to register their account from scratch instead of logging in. The correct version should be rendered as "Zaloguj się™", which translates into "Log in/Sign in". For logging out it should be "Wyloguj się™" and NOT "Wyrejestruj which means "Unregister". To support the above issue I have attached screenshots which highlight the mistranslations and suggest the correct version."

SLT - I changed this on our end. Please update the translation memories. Thanks!
Some comments from our language service provider: “It's a known problem that is attributed to wrong source. You can notice the similar problem on linkedin for instance. Confusion stems not from the wrong Polish, which is actually translated according to approved subject terminology, but from the wrong English, because if someone has the choice of Log In/Log Out and Sign In/Sign Out (which mean sth different, indeed) why do they choose the latter in the meaning of the former one? Of course it may cause confusion but I think it may cause the same condusion in EN. Obviously, if it's possible and this causes confusion among clients, it may be changed to the version suggested by the person registering the bug.” François
...which boils down to "we did the correct translation of a confusing term, and we don't want to use something different even if all but Polish users are ok with that term"? They refuse to change it?!?
Well they are not saying that they don't want to change it, but according to the source their translations looks fine... Let's use what was suggested by the customer care for the moment; but I strongly recommend to change the source text to Log In/Log Out to match "Log in" from "Already have an account? Log in here." in the following page http://www.mysqueezebox.com/user/signup. "Log In/Out" is widely used all around the web.

Moving lower-priority bugs to next target
This actually might be fixed today or tomorrow when we get the translations back. It will then be in 7.5.0.
