Bugzilla – Bug 15737
Add Squeezebox to mysqueezebox.com from web interface.
Last modified: 2010-02-19 07:26:02 UTC
Although having the setup process entirely done on the Squeezebox is an easier mental model for an average user to understand and this is a great improvement since sbs 7.4, it would also be very convenient to also be able to add a Squeezebox to a mysqueezebox.com account from the web interface, for two main reasons: - Entering an email and Password on any other device than SBTouch is a pain. - It is even more a pain if you have several Squeezeboxes to setup (To the same account or different accounts). This is already true for a few Squeezeboxes, but in some cases it becomes a real problem when having to install a large number of Squeezeboxes.
Let's not target this just yet...
My argument against being able to do this: The "Your player is already registered" fiasco that many people are forced to deal with when registering both new and previously owned players. By having the registration require a connection from a player, you could some day avoid the 'already registered' hassles and simply register the player to the new account without requiring Logitech support to get involved in sorting out the registration issue. By permitting the manual entry of players you open up the possibility that typos (I'm assuming one would enter a player's MAC address) could register the wrong player, one which may already be registered to another account. Of course, if there are no plans to ever fix the player registration problems, then this enhancement wouldn't make the situation any worse. I agree with point #1 above - entering an email address and password on any Squeezebox except the Touch is a pain. But #2 could be addressed by having the local SbS register the player using its stored account information. I think there might even be an enhancement request on file to do this.
No, this is why we have (had) the commercial portal.
