Bugzilla – Bug 15728
Certain text is much to small to be read easily
Last modified: 2010-06-17 10:30:26 UTC
Specifically, the following text is much to small: * The clock at the bottom of the screen. * The scrolling album and artist text on Now Playing * The "text area" text, as shown in Information Browser. Especially with regard to the first two items, I think the current default text size is illegible to any person without 20/20 vision such as myself. This is especially important for the Radio because of it's implied bedroom use where people are not alway going to be wearing their eye-glasses. The attached patch address this problem. I'm told by Erland that it doesn't apply against 7.5, but it works nicely against 7.4.1. A small drawback of this change is slightly less of the album artwork can be seen because the album text takes abit more room. Nonetheless I think the plus of actually being able to read the text outweigh this. :) The change for the clock at the bottom really is a no-brainer, as no screen estate is lost - the text is made as large as it can without expanding out of the bottom border area. A couple of people have expressed positive feedback at this change already: http://forums.slimdevices.com/showthread.php?t=74689&highlight=bigger+text

Is there any chance of an "official" response to this bug? Erland has included the patch in his 7.5 patch installer applet, but I am interested to hear what Logitechh folks think. It pains me to have to reinstall the patch each time I update my Radio... Increasing the size of the clock, at least, is an absolute no brainer. I have attached the updated patch for 7.5, as made by Erland.

Hi Aslak, I like your patch, and I appreciate that other people like it too. However, I'm not yet convinced, despite positive comments, that this is something that we should put into the production firmware.
I'll tag this with future_projects to make sure we review it at UI-design-time. In addition, Ben notes that it will be easier to set font size at some point due to the Now Playing 2.0 project he's working on.
Just to clarify, it will be easier to customize a skin through a 3rd party applet with the Now Playing 2.0 framework, as part of that framework needs to include the ability for an applet to both modify and extend the currently loaded skin.
