Bugzilla – Bug 15696
Stopping server during startup scan gets stuck 'scanning'
Last modified: 2011-09-05 11:59:40 UTC
I was testing a script to update the server via SVN. The script shuts down the server, does an SVN update, then starts the server again. I'm sure I must have shut down the server several times while it was still running its library scan on startup. What happens is that the server is left in a state where it thinks that a scan is taking place. Restarting the server doesn't clear it, as the startup scan won't run when in this state.
This and other 'is scanning' issues associated with running an in-process scanner will need to be dealt with before being released, or the system is going to be very unstable. Some type of housekeeping that doesn't currently happen will need to be implemented whenever the server is shut down during a scan.
Jim - is this still an issue with the latest nightly? I did some related changes a while back without updating this bug report.
The startup scan is part of the 'autorescan' feature, which has since been disabled on Windows. I think it's safe to say the it's no longer an issue on that platform. Whether or not it's stable on platforms that still use autorescan is something that I couldn't say. Someone else would have to test that.
This bug is moot since auto-rescan on Windows has been axed.
