With TinySC the possibility of having two local servers greatly increases. One on computer one on device. 
Sync behavior allows all units connected to MSB.com to sync, or all units connected to a single local server to sync. If you have two local servers and a unit attached to each one you cannot get them to sync. 
If you have them on MSB.com then sync
Once synced they will all follow to whatever library or other source.

Is there a way we could get them to sync without having them on a common source first.

Well, all players need to be on the same server for sync to work.  I guess what you are asking for is to be able to select from all players on all servers, and have it automatically pull each player to a single common server and then sync them?
