Description Trevor F. 2010-02-08 09:45:58 UTC
I am able to reproduce this issue, creating a now playling playlist in the Web Remote control and saving through the diskette icon at the bottom of this frame, does not save the playlist to Squeezebox Server, and does not populate the playlist on the player. It appears to do nothing. iTunes playlists and imported .pls playlists appear to work as intended however.

I really enjoy using Squeezebox but with the amount of tracks I have in my library, using a playlist is a great option to streamlining my selections and fully enjoying my music. Apparently I was the first user to report this issue and can validate that it is not saving playlists the way is was designed to. Please look into this bug as quickly as possible.

Thank you.

Best regards,

Jerry

More detail needed before this bug can be confirmed.

What version of Squeezecenter are you using, on what OS, how big is the playlist, and what is in the playlist (local files, napster/rhapsody tracks or internet radio urls)?

Is the original problem reports that the playlist is not saving (as suggested by the second post)or that it is saving in the wrong format?

Have you entered something in the setting for the Playlist folder under Settings/Basic Settings and does the software have read/write access to that folder (if the playlist folder is on a networked drive it may well be a permissions issue).

Can you provide a log for when you try to save the playlist? In the WebUI go to Settings/Advanced/Logging and select LogSet=Server and apply. Then try and create and save your playlist. Go back to the server.log file (there is a link to this in the WebUI under Settings/Information). Do you see any error messages?

Iam using Squeezebox version 7.4.1 - r28947. The Playlist is approximately 40 tracks and they are local files. The original problem is accurate, the playlist is not being saved.

In regards to the Playlist folder I am creating the playlist by selecting the tracks within Squeezebox by clicking on the plus (+) to add a track to the playlist. After my selections are completed I save the playlist and give it a name. I am not using a playlist created from another source or that would be accessible from the Playlist folder.

I am just a user and to be honest I have no idea what a WebUI is, or how to access, create a log, or perform any of the other tasks you suggested in regards to the WebUI. If you provide me with detail instructions I would be glad to attempt the procedure in order to supply you with the requested information.

Thank you for looking into this matter.

Best regards,

Jerry

Jerry, I downloaded v7.4.1 release (I'm running a beta version) and tested it on an XP machine. Playlists save as expected. There are also a number of posts on the forum which confirm that playlists are saving for many users with 7.4.1.

That doesn't mean you're not experiencing a bug, but it does mean that the issue appears to be specific to your setup. We therefore need to narrow down what is causing the issue before it can be confirmed as a bug.

In order to try and track down the problem I would be grateful if you could answer the following questions:

1. What operating software is the 7.4.1 software running on? Linux/Windows/Mac? If you are running on an NAS box - which one and how did you install the software?

2. Are your local music files stored on the same box that is running the 7.4.1 software, or are they on a separate drive? If on a separate drive, what is the make/type of the drive and how is it connected to the box that runs Squeezecenter software.

3. It sounds to me as if you are using the web interface at http://localhost:9000 (what I call the web ui) to build your playlist. Which button on the right hand side of the page are you pressing to save the playlist?

4. If you go to (on the web interface) Settings/Basic Settings what setting have you entered for the Playlist directory? If you don't know what I mean by this, look here: http://melford.fastmail.co.uk at screen3.jpg. Have you entered something in this setting and can you browse to the folder you have selected (if so, the box should briefly flash green when you press enter).

5. Where is the playlist folder located? On the same box as the software is running on, or on a networked drive?

6. Go to Settings/Advanced/Logging and select log set Server then apply. Look at http://melford.fastmail.co.uk - screen4.jpg for more info.
Now try and create and save a playlist. When it fails go to your server.log file (there is a link on the Information tab) and look at the end (i.e. the time that corresponds to the time you just tried to save the playlist). Do you see any error messages? If so, can you post them here or attach the log to this bug.

If you can answer these questions, it should give a much better idea what the problem is.

Siduhe,

Hopefully I have provided the answers to your questions and given you some additional insight into the problems Iā€™m experiencing.

1.	Operating System: Windows Vista 32-bit Home Premium Edition
2.	The music files are stored on my C drive. It has 318 GB of free space. Ram memory is 3 GB.
3.	I am using the Save button located at the bottom of the playlist display on the right next to the Clear button. And, you are correct I am using the web interface at http://localhost:9000.
4.	Under Settings/Basic Settings I have not entered a setting, the field is blank. Presently I do not use playlists created in Window Media Player when using Squeezebox that is why I have left this field blank. However, when I browse to select a folder only three are displayed, E, F, and G which are external storage and CD drives. The C drive where Windows Media Player playlists are located is not displayed. None of the drives that are displayed can be selected, and when I do attempt to select a displayed folder and press enter, the box does not briefly flash green.
5.	I think the answer to this question is in response #4.
6.	I have attached the results from this procedure.

Note: On February 22 I install the update for Squeezebox. The current version is 7.4.2 ā€“
r30215

Thank you for your attention to this issue.

Jerry, I think we have your problem:

You say:

4. Under Settings/Basic Settings I have not entered a setting, the field is
> blank. Presently I do not use playlists created in Window Media Player when
> using Squeezebox that is why I have left this field blank. However, when I
> browse to select a folder only three are displayed, E, F, and G which are

> playlists are located is not displayed. None of the drives that are displayed
> can be selected, and when I do attempt to select a displayed folder and press
> enter, the box does not briefly flash green.

The Basic Settings/Playlist Folder is not only to tell the software where to read your playlists, it is also to tell the software where to save the playlists. If you do not have anything entered here, playlists will not save. You need to enter a directory which is both readable and writeable by the software in the Playlist Folder setting.

To test this, can you enter an existing folder on one of the drives you can access into the playlist folder setting and click apply? Now create and save a playlist. Does it appear in Music Library/Playlists and/or get saved in the folder? If so, yay!

Now the more interesting issue is why you can't see your C:/ drive as a folder option when you browse. Presumably the squeezebox software is installed on C:/? This is possibly a Vista issue - it has some very strange ideas about permissions for folders. The folder you want to save your playlists in - can you check it isn't a hidden folder. Try just putting the path to the folder in (i.e. not using browse) so c:/Documents and settings/Folder and click apply. Does it take?

Based on the further info provided by the reporter, this bug can be marked as INVALID. It appears to be a setup issue (no playlist folder defined) not a bug.

Jerry, if you still can't get your playlist folder to be accepted in Settings, post on the slim devices forums and someone will help you out with setup (I will look out for any post by you on this issue).

Siduhe,

I apologize for not being able to respond sooner. Per your instructions I completed steps 1 and 2 listed below. For step 2 I established a new folder and named is Squeezebox Playlist and then typed the path. Afterwards I created a playlist and saved it. It saved to the new Squeezebox Playlist folder and it is visible when using the controller. Problem solved!

Your prompt response, professionalism, and expertise is very much appreciated. You did a great job in getting to the root of the issue.

Thank you so very much.

Best regards,

Jerry
