Description wesleym 2010-01-29 17:16:08 UTC
Frequently (one to three times over 3-4 hours) when I play "Pop | Absolute Radio" internet station on my receiver the playing stops. This happens nearly every night I play the station and I listen to this station 3 or 4 times a week.

When I try to press play on the remote, nothing. When I browse out of now playing to the main menu and try to re navigate back into internet radio (Internet Radio / Staff Picks / Best of Internet Radio) I cannot. I get the circle in progress status icon next to the menu item (Staff Picks I believe).

Once I even trying resetting the controller but had the same problem where I it would not let me navigate into the Staff Picks menu. I have to reset the receiver and then I am able to navigate and play the station OK.

Both the controller and receiver status icons/LED are white the entire time. When the music stops the controller does not say re buffering so it's not that. It thinks its still playing.

I am currently running squeezebox server 7.4.1 software on windows 7. I have a duet with the controller and duet connected via wireless to my network with the server wired to my router.

I do have a slow internet connection, about 35kB/s. Internet radio plays fine, but I have to make sure not to use a web browser or expect that some rebuffering will occur. I have no lag in navigating internet radio and playing stations.

I had the same problem Sunday playing, in two hours I had to reset the receiver (unplugging it) three times. After reading my description again I have a couple of comments to correct some inaccuracies (my memory isn't the best):

(1) I said this in second paragraph: "I get the circle in progress status icon next to the menu item (Staff Picks I believe)." Actually I get the screen where it says it is connection to mysqueezebox.com. It holds on this screen for a few seconds and then says it couldn't connect to mysqueezebox.com and asks if I want to try again. Occasionally, I do hit try again but with no results. I never try more than once.

(2) In the forth paragraph I said "Both the controller and receiver status icons/LED are white the entire time." This is not 100% true. When I reset the controller (see paragraph 3 in the description) the connection status icon at the bottom of the controller LCD does turn red after a reset. The receiver's LED remains white though. Also I only get Now Playing, Settings, Select Player, and one other that I now forgot as menu items. I clicked on the Select Player and get option to pick Squeezebox I believe it was. I tried selecting that but it does nothing. I think it just brought me back to the main menu.

Yesterday I went to mysqueezebox.com and it showed the receiver as disconnected.

It happened again (radio station stopped playing) but this time I was right there both times and took a look at the controller display. Both times the controller said it was buffering but it was re-buffering very slow. Usually it takes about 2-3s to rebuffer.

The first time I caught it I waited about 15s while it was re-buffering and then press the back button to go back to the previous menu which the controller did. A "re-buffering failed" pop-up then appeared. I wasn't able to play the station after that. I had to reset the the receiver.

The second time it happened it again said it was re buffering but again is was re-buffering very slowly. This time I waited and eventually the same pop up appeared (re-buffering failed) and I had to reset the receiver. It took about 30-60s.

For what its worth, I've recently had an episode of constant rebuffering on a live mp3 feed. Rebooting (not resetting) the receiver cleared the problem. I haven't seen it again. I'm 7.5 up to date.

When I say "reset" I mean unplug the receiver and plug it back in. I don't have to reset it back to factory defaults.

Seem to be having similar problem with radio: http://forums.slimdevices.com/showthread.php?t=72182.

I couldn't reproduce then when I tried today, using 'squid' to limit my bandwidth. I am not convinced that this is a good way to test this, and am not closing this bug yet. I will continue to look at it.

I don't think the Squeezebox Radio bug is the same; the platforms are totally different. What makes a Receiver crash or lock up would be totally different than what makes a Radio crash or lock up.

Those thread participants should file a new bug for their issues.

I upgraded to 7.4.2 just before weekend. I had it happen a couple of times again Sunday but not Saturday. I played 4 or 5 hours each day. Not sure what I can tell you to help you repeat this but here is following program I usually have running:

   1. squeezebox server 7.4.2
   2. Norton Internet Security 2009 (just upgraded to 2010 before weekend).
   3. Outlook with VPN (to download e-mail)
   4. BOINC ( http://boinc.berkeley.edu/). I limit both uploads and downloads to 10KB/s each for total 20KB/s, internet connected allowed every 0.1 days
   5. wheathereye app (http://www.theweathernetwork.com/downloads/?ref=topnav_weather_downloads)

I do use Firefox 3.6 as browser. The buffering doesn't concern me (its obvious due to my connection), but just a little annoying have to remove power. There is no problem playing my local music.

Is there a way to reboot the receiver besides removing power? I tried holding in the button on the front but the receiver led turned red and nothing else happened until I removed power.

I should mention one time I had computer off the receiver did not freeze.

I have the receiver connected wireless to router and computer with squeezebox server wired to router. I'm using a dlink DI-524 with latest firmware.

Is anything useful to be learned by using mysqueezebox instead of the server to get the radio playing?

I just saw this again.

Finished playing a local mp3 file.
Tried to tune WBAA2 (second real audio stream) and hung on connecting.
Tried to tune WBAA (first stream) and got slow buffering, followed by rebuffering.
Tried to tune KUHF, an mp3 stream. Got constant rebuffering.
Reboot - KUHF is fine. Try WBAA again. Rebuffering, then KUHF is bad.
Reboot - KUHF is fine. Try to repeat. Now WBAA2 is fine, WBAA is down.

Note that my (no squeeze) tracking has shown WBAA to be flaky for the past few days, so I attribute those problems to it. But KUHF is rock solid.

So all I've added is the superstition that buffering troubles can get the receiver into a bad state. And that this is still happening - latest 7.5, by the way.
