I do not know if this is intended purpose or not, however if you are currently on the now playing panel and press add (+) it displays a message about removing the track from now playing, and the now playing displays 'Nothing'. This is contrary to other medium, where the add (+) button opens the context menu that allows you to add to favorites or view track information.

That's a "Feature": move a track to the "zapped playlist". A special playlist users can use to eg. remember tracks they have to edit. Admittedly not intuitive, but been there for years (ever since the original Squeezebox1 or SliMP3).
