Julius - you are right SBC connects / disconnects from the wireless network like crazy. Sometimes so fast that it cannot even get an IP address. Can you give some additional information / settings about the router with ssid 'noway' you are using? From the mac address I assume it is a Linksys router. Does it help if you change the wireless channel on the router? Does it help if you change the encryption method? Does that SBC connect ok to other wireless routers? Do you get the same results with another SBC? Maybe your SBC is faulty? Thanks Felix
Here are the router specs. I'll contact the customer to see if I can get additional detail or even have him chime in on the bug. Linksys WRT54GX4 with SRX400. The HW version is 1.0. The firmware is 1.00.20 (this is the latest).
Created attachment 6428 [details] Log of router changes to date to attempt to correct SBC connectivity
Hi, I logged the original incident. Julius has my contact info (primary email & phone). Please don't hesitate to contact me. Responses to your questions: See Julius's comments about the router. I've also uploaded a log of router changes I made to try to correct the issue. Wireless Channel. I'm using channel 11. There are no other detectable networks that would interfere. I'll try another channel this weekend & report back. I'm doubtful.... Encryption. I'm using WPA2. I'll try WPA and maybe WEP this weekend. Please be clear, anything other than WPA2 is not acceptable as a long term solution (although I do understand this info may be important to narrow down possibilities). I don't have another wireless router to try (I do have an old dlink 624 but it isn't reliable so probably is a bad test case). If you want to send me one to try I'll test with it. This occurs with 2 different controllers. The SBC is a replacement unit, (tier 1 replaced all Duet components in November in an attempt to fix this issue). This issue pre-existed the replacement. I don't believe it's a faulty SBC. - Bob
Update after trying different channel/encryption: - Different channel - seemed slightly more reliable but SBC still dropped connections. Went back to Channel 11 for encryption tests. - Different encryption modes - short story - WEP worked - WPA2 w/AES - SBC still dropped connections - WPA w/AES - SBC still dropped connections - WPA w/TKIP - SBC still dropped connections - WEP w/64 bit key - SBC maintained connections - WEP w/128 bit key - not tested
BTW, I went back to WPA2/AES as WEP provides inadequate security. Please advise if I can do anything else to help. Bob
Felix, This is already the customer's second SBC. I took over the ticket in the middle of the RMA process. As he noted in his latest responses, the only thing that got the unit to behave a little more reliably was changing the security type to WEP, but doesn't feel that WEP is suffice as a security measure. Do you have any other suggestions Felix? - Julius
OK, this weekend I dug out my old D-Link DI-624 and tried it. It worked well in spite of a lower signal strength until it overheated an died again (reason it was replaced with the WRT54GX4) - it had one wierd problem in that it wouldn't recognize a second SBR. I went and bought a Linksys WRT400N and have installed it now. So far mostly OK. I had some weird problems Sunday night but have since cleared the cache & preferences. I'll test it out over the next couple of dayes and report back. It also suffers from lower signal power as seen on the SBR(s). It used to be in the 70% range, now it's in the low 40% range on the SBRs. If you can recommend a more reliable/powerful router please let me know. I have 30 days to return this router. Please bear in mind the WRT54GX4 worked fine with the Duet until 7.4 was installed. There is something in that release (and 7.5) that broke things. Regards, Bob
