SB Server 7.4.1 & 7.5
MAC and PC

When you have over 500 songs in the Root of a folder, and you try to add All the songs to a playlist, you get "Playlist Full" error (7.5)

In 7.4.1, SB Server freezes when you try to add all of the songs.

Customer states this limitation was not in 7.3.3.

Was able to recreate both issue here with 7.4.1 and 7.5 respectively.

Steps to recreate issue.

-Add over 500 individual songs to one folder
-Have SB Server scan this folder only
-Once scan is completed, go to music folder, and try to add all of the songs to the playlist

The message shows bottom left of the SB Server Web UI.

**Also, if yo try to add more songs to the playlist you get the message "Playlist Full, no tracks added"****

Thanks,

LaRon

It's a feature, not a bug. As huge playlists were killing some servers, a limit has been introduced in 7.5. Obviously it's set to 500 by default. But it can be changed in Settings/Advanced/Performance.

I appreciate Engineerings feedback however this unfortunately doesn't translate to the same functionality that 7.3 had. I tested with a default limit of 600 and it's almost unusable.

I would ask you to test this in your environment to see if you feel it's an acceptable experience when compared to what was the same function in 7.3... I don't know what they've done behind the scenes, however when you press the center button it tries to immediately play the song, whereas in 7.3 you went into a sub-menu before selecting the option to play the song...this feels like how it now translates to the + button in 7.4-5; I don't mind the difference of center button function, however I don't believe it should perform to a lesser degree as newer firmware (it's not cool when you have a very innovative device and you have to give the disclaimer to anyone using it -- **just don't press the center button**....!

I believe this is a realistic number of songs to have in a root directory as I also have artist subdirectories however that can become very cumbersome to navigate/play/queue songs as opposed to a simple folder(500+ songs) containing new releases/genres etc... Any feedback/info is appreciated, thank you, Matt

**need to clarify initial comment by LaRon**

""When you have over 500 songs in the Root of a folder, *and you try to add All
the songs to a playlist*, you get "Playlist Full" error (7.5)

In 7.4.1, SB Server freezes when you try to add all of the songs.

Customer states this limitation was not in 7.3.3.""

-------

When I reported this incident, the function i attempted was to simply play '1' song in a folder containing 500+ songs by pressing the center button...not add them all to a playlist -- it responded with an error as though i was attempting that function....i was never using playlists, nor adding songs to a playlist to repro this error...thats why i found it to truly be a 'bug' vs the function in 7.3....

I've had my Sqeezebox2 for many years. In that time, it has been a great addition to my multi-zone audio system. I have even sold a few to my clients.

However, with the recent "upgrade" (ver. 7.5.0), this device is useless! I am now restricted to ONLY 500 songs in any play list? WTF?!!! This is totally UNACCEPTABLE and a step backward in terms of upgrade. I have never had ANY issues in the previous versions going back at least 6 years. My play lists, in the 3000+ range, functioned flawlessly. I do not intend to create numerous play lists to work within the confines of this new version. Besides, it would literally be impossible for me to create an acceptable play list limited to only 500 songs.

An easy fix to this "bug" is simply to revert to the previous version IMMEDIATELY by posting the download link online. Then, work out the bug in the newer version before inflicting it upon your users. In the meantime, this is what I call a piece if shit.

I wish to retract my previous comment since the remedy was right there before my eyes within comment 1 (which I hastily overlooked).

However, you should inform your telephone tech support reps of the fix. They failed to address this issue during two previous phone calls this week. Although one was knowledgeable enough to direct me to this site, he could have easily conveyed the remedy verbally. Just sayin'

You can increase the playlist limit if you're using only ip3k based players (SB, SB2, SB3, Boom, Transporter) but be very careful using any of the new SqueezePlay based players (Duet, Radio and Touch). Something is badly broken in SqueezePlay playlist handling. No doubt that's the primary reason for the new limit in 7.5. You can have a current playlist on an ip3k players containing tens of thousands of tracks with not a single glitch, but you'll get dropouts and constant rebuffering with a SqueezePlay player at a far lower level.
