Bugzilla – Bug 15256
unexpected power offs of the Radio after a couple of hours
Last modified: 2010-04-08 17:24:46 UTC
I had the problem last week that the Radio switched itself off after a couple of hours. First guess was a SW bug, I reinstalled the software to a previous release, did factory resets, reinstalled the software on the squeezeserver and so on, but it turned to be something completely different... Unplugging and replugging the power cord from the Radio did not help, unplugging and replugging the batteries did not help either. Then I noticed that the power supply gave a voltage of about 4.6 - 4.9 Volts (according to the diagnostics screen). This resulted in a discharging battery and when the battery was discharged it switched itself off (of course) In the mean time the power adapter charged the battery just enough that the Radio was able to be switched on later; the Radio even switched itself on at alarm times which confused me even more (is it really off or on?) What eventually helped was disconnecting the power adapter from the wall outlet, and plugging it back in. The Wall Voltage is again a little above 18 Volts, so the Power adapter itself was/is not broken! A message on the screen indicating that the power supply is failing when it gets below a certain Voltage would be nice, I would not have been so confused like this... Maybe the power supply got in this state because I regularly remove the power cord from the Radio and take the Radio to a different location without removing the power supply from the wall outlet.
Remy, what version of the hardware do you have? This is on the belly label on the bottom of the radio. Thanks!
Also, check the Hardware Version via settings > advanced > diagnostics: hardware version =
The label on the bottom says: PVT2 Via Diagnostics it says 'hardware version = 4' Remy
Okay, I've reviewed the incoming parts tests at the factory so we can catch this. Unfortunately there's no way to check the incoming voltage on Radio. I'll put it in my list of things to consider for the next product. Do you need a new power supply? Best regards,
> Unfortunately there's no way to check the incoming voltage on Radio. Strange... The diagnostics screen is really displaying it... > Do you need a new power supply? No, since the incident it is working normally. Remy
Oh yes, the battery voltage. Somehow when I originally read this bug, I was thinking of the DC-in from the power supply. There are some bugs in battery-handling in the 7.4.1 firmware. These appear to have all been fixed in 7.4.2, which will go out sometime in the next couple of weeks (depending on how many more bugs we find in it :)
This bug has been marked fixed in a released version of Squeezebox Server or the accompanying firmware or mysqueezebox.com release. If you are still seeing this issue, please let us know!
