Bugzilla – Bug 15137
Server fails to start when configured as a service
Last modified: 2010-05-20 13:31:07 UTC
Novaliches support team reports that when configuring the Windows Vista server here to start as a service ("start when system boots") it fails to start after a restart. To reproduce: * Open Control Panel * Shut down server * Set server to to start when system boots * Click Apply * click OK * Restart computer After restart, the server does is not running. If you open the Control Panel again it's actually set to "Don't start automatically". Clicking the Start Server button then will start it successfully without issue, so I don't think it's crashing on start.
Working fine for me. QA - can you reproduce? Dan - can you give some more information about that particular installation? Can they reproduce it on any Vista box or only that one they tested with?
FWIW: first tested with whatever 7.4.0 nighly I had installed on my Vista box. Updated to the official 7.4.1 and it's still working as expected. Doesn't the service show up in the service manager at all?
This is not going to block 7.5.
Dan notes customers have also reported this with Windows 7
If the server cannot be installed as a service any more, we need to get that fixed.
I think the problem occurs before the restart. Testing on a Windows 7 Ultimate 64-bit system, I tried reproducing this issue with the steps outlined in the first comment and noted the following: * Open Control Panel * Set server startup option to "Automatically run at system start" * Click Apply * Click OK * Reopen Control Panel * Server startup option is now set to "Don't start automatically" The setting worked as expected for me on two systems running Windows 7 32-bit.
Could not repro with 7.5.1 30796
